Chapter 193: What hurts the most
That morning, Eric, Mia and Jessica parted ways with Liara at Samara's house. The toddler had kicked and screamed the entire morning, and the effects of those screams were apparent on the faces of each adult. Eric's eyes were dark, and each woman had red, swollen eyes. But, they knew they had to move.
Idling engines broke Eric from his thoughts. He looked down the line, four vehicles, four personnel in each. A mana user now sat in each vehicle, the sins of Persais wouldn't be repeated. Trephania was in Bravo, Jessica was in Charlie, Justin and Erica were in Delta, and Eric was with Mia in Alpha. As Eric looked over the roster, Michael walked up, cigarette in hand. His eyes had dark circles under them, his scruff matching the haggard expression they all wore. "Everyone's ready." He grumbled as he climbed into the TC seat.
Eric nodded and conducted a radio check. All comms were good.
"Move out."
There would be no heroic speech this time.
