Jessica shivered at the question, her body involuntarily frozen for a few moments. She tried to meet her eyes, but her entire being fought against itself. Finally, she collected herself.
She sighed, sitting up in her chair as she looked at him. "You don't." She said quietly.
"There are ways for me to offer myself, but that would be slavery, not true loyalty. There is no way for me to prove that I simply wait to be unchained from the past."
Eric sat there, inwardly shocked. The young woman had answered his question in a more composed manner than he thought was possible. She still looked broken and fragile, but at least now she had some semblance of self.
"That's true." He responded evenly.
