Chapter 32 - History

After homeroom class ended, we had History.

Shortly after our homeroom teacher left, a grey-haired old man entered the room; he would be our history teacher.

The history they taught in the academy was what happened after the other worlders showed up in our world and the war that took place shortly after.

Back in my world, a lot of games and novels had similar storylines to this one. In these stories, when the otherworlders show up with their magic and systems, the humans were always helpless. All the technologies and weapons they had spent years developing proved useless against the invading forces.

In Demon Among Us, that was far from the truth. During the beginning of the war, humans weren't helpless. They could hold their own against demons with the power of missiles, tanks, and fighter jets.

But by far the most powerful weapon humans had at their disposal was the atom bomb. Apart from the demon king and a few others, nothing could stand against this power. To understand this, you had to understand the power of an atom bomb.

When an atom bomb goes off, before the sound of the explosion even hit, it releases a pulse of thermal radiation. This pulse causes everything within the blast radius to immediately sublimate, meaning it goes from solid to gas directly.

So, concrete, metals, glass, and any solid material you could think of would all be incinerated into gas as if they never existed. If you were somehow able to witness this, it would look as if everything was turning into mist right before your very eyes.

And this was just the first effect.

Then came the sonic wave. The sonic blast from the explosion would have enough force to turn mountains into dust. And if by some miracle there were any survivors, they would all die a slow death by the radiation.

These types of explosions were part of the reason why this Earth was the way it was. Most of the land was either destroyed or covered in radiation.

The reason why I was interested in this was because of my transmutation ability. Technically, I could recreate the effect of the atomic bomb with my transmutation ability. I had the technical knowledge of how to do so, but not the proficiency.

Besides, there was a bigger issue: unless I could adapt to such an explosion, which I couldn't, it would just be a suicide attempt. And even though the atom bomb was powerful, there were abilities and creatures in this world that were far scarier than the atomic bomb. That being said, it could prove useful as a weapon.

"In the end, after the arrival of awakeners and all the races joined hands against the demon king and his forces, that's why we truly won the war. Most of the human population was wiped out in the war, and in the end, only one continent remained. The continent formerly known as Oceania; but it was later renamed to Asmora. A name that was agreed upon by all the races that existed here," the professor ended by saying.

"For your homework, I want you to research the first planet that was colonized after the war."

After giving his final assignment, the professor left the classroom. As he left, I immediately began packing up my things to leave for my next class, but just then, I was approached by someone.

It was Kai of all people. He wore a wide grin on his face as he approached me.

"Glasses, I heard a rumor about you," he said, leaning onto my desk.

I paused packing my bag and glanced up at him.

"What kind of rumor?"

"I don't know if it's true, but some are saying you confessed to Mia this morning. A few students claimed they saw you begging on your knees for her to go out with you, while Mia had a soul weapon out, about to execute you. Some even said you tried to kiss her."

As Kai spoke, I noticed that Luna was staring at me with a strange look on her face.

What's that all about?

Just like that, the truth was twisted. There were probably so many variations of this story going around that no one actually knew the truth. I didn't expect any difference. In the end, they'll make their fantasies.

"So is it true?" Kai asked, still wearing his amused smile.

"I…"

"Hey, Kai."

Just as I was about to answer, a girl appeared beside Kai and latched onto his arm.

On first impression, she seemed like the flashy kind of girl.

She had blonde hair which was tied in two. The hairstyle was called twin tails, I think. She must've had a dozen colorful bracelets covering her hand. Her nails were also colorfully painted, and she had a sweater stylishly tied around her waist.

The way she held onto Kai, you would've had the impression that she was his girlfriend.

"Oh, Aaliyah, what's up?" Kai asked.

The girl, Aaliyah, puffed out her cheeks and began pouting.

"Did you forget already? You said we'd walk to class together."

"Oh, of course not. How could I forget?" Kai replied with a smile, which caused Aaliyah to clap her hands happily before pulling him away.

With Kai gone, I packed my bag and left the classroom. I had a martial arts elective next. Today was the day when my martial arts training was finally about to start.
