Chapter 20 - Him

At that moment, it felt as if the entire atmosphere of the classroom had changed. My attention was immediately drawn to the entrance of the classroom, and there he was. There stood a young man with waving black hair.

He was dressed in the same academy uniform just like everyone else, but just from a glance, you could tell that he was clearly different. It wasn't just his good looks, but his entire aura was different from everyone else. He had a chiseled jawline and very masculine features.

His muscles were well toned making him look as if he was carved by the goddess of love herself. Looking at him, you could tell he was someone who trained a lot.

Immediately, everyone was drawn in by his presence. It wasn't just the girls in the class who were swooning, but most of the boys were intimidated by him.

Apart from his looks, there was also his status. This young man was the son of the rank 1 guild master, and he was in line to take over his family's guild. Soon, he would become the most important figure in this world. Most considered it an honor just being in his presence.

This young man was Levi Fairchild, the rank 1 first-year student. An A-ranked talent with a proficiency higher than most licensed heroes. But by far, his most important role was as the protagonist of 'Demon Among Us.'

With such good looks and status, you could say he had it all. That was exactly the problem with this game. Imagine playing as such a character. Everything always went his way with little to no obstacle. He was a bulldozer that trampled through every obstacle that reared its head. There was never any challenge, which caused this almost perfect game to fall to mediocrity.

But what if the stakes changed?

What if I slit the throat of the beautiful girl standing next to him?

How would things change then?

How would things change if he was forced to hold his childhood friend and first love in his arms as she took her last breath?

Those were the kind of changes I was interested in.

Such a capable hero needed a good villain to his story.

The girl in question had entered the classroom with Levi. The two were walking side by side, happily chatting away. Her name was Mia Nightingale. Her father was actually a high-rank hero in Levi's family guild. This caused the two to grow up as childhood friends.

The truth was that Mia was hopelessly in love with our protagonist, while our protagonist was too dense to realize her feelings and hadn't discovered his own feelings towards her.

Mia had short shoulder-length brown hair and a cute face that almost made her seem like a doll. She had small body and was on the short side. Her shortness made her look like a dwarf standing next to Levi.

She wasn't as beautiful as the elf princess, but she was cute in the adorable kind of way. But that was far from her personality. She had a tomboyish personality, and her 'cute' side only came out when in the presence of the MC. Unless you were particularly close to her then you would be given the cold shoulder.

I pitied the poor souls who were brave enough to actually confess to her.

The two glanced around the classroom at the remaining seats left available. Ultimately, the two decided to take a seat at the front.

While I was busy looking at them, a girl wearing glasses took the seat next to me.

She was an extremely pale girl and a bit plain-looking. The type of girl you walk past on the street and never bat an eye at. Her uniform skirt was long to the point where it covered her knee caps. It caught my attention since it seemed to be some sort of fashion trend for the girls to wear short skirts, but this girl was clearly different.

Another thing was the fact that she was wearing a scarf even though the temperature this time of year was generally very hot.

Man, she was pale. It was as if I was looking at a ghost.

The strange girl glanced at the seat beside me with a bit of hesitation before looking towards me.

"Umm… Is this seat taken?"

Her voice was soft and low, barely above a whisper. While I observed the students in the class, I pretended to be reading one of my textbooks. It was a book about quantum physics, something far above the high school level.

I adjusted my glasses, which were slipping from my face, and glanced up at her.

"No, it's not."

"Oh, thank you."

She meekly bowed her head and took the seat beside me. I occasionally took glances at the students in the classroom as I pretended to read the textbook. I had already memorized everything inside the book, so it was no use for me to actually read it.

This continued until our homeroom teacher entered the classroom, at which I closed the textbook. The woman who stepped in had an air of radiance around her, which naturally drew everyone's attention.

Her beautiful blonde hair was tied in a bun, leaving only a few strands dangling beside her face. She wore a suit with a skirt just short enough to be appropriate for school.

The woman took her place at the teacher's podium and greeted us all with a smile that made her look even more magical.

"Good morning, students of Class Qi. I am Professor Ariel Vesper, and I will be your homeroom teacher for the rest of your time here at this academy..."

Everyone was captivated by her easy-going demeanor and beauty. Looking at her, I couldn't suppress the small smile that had appeared on my face.

Ariel Vesper.

My homeroom teacher, but her role wasn't so simple.

She was more than just a simple teacher.

The truth is that she was an angel sent to guard the young talents of the academy against people like me.

The four-winged angel, Ariel Vesper…
