The whip still coiled tight, dragging Kade's burned body inch by inch back toward the pool.

Nadine's Veinpiercer carved through the tendril with a single vicious slash. The bone whip instantly snapped apart, ichor spraying as the severed piece writhed and curled.
Clara wasted no time. She clutching Kade's broken body and pulling with all her strength. Nadine grabbed him under the shoulder, the two women then dragging him across the scarred ground until they were far enough from the steaming pool.
Once they stopped, Clara's hands trembled as she looked at the horrific burns crawling across Kade's back.
His skin blistered, raw, and blackened, steam still rising from the wounds. His hoarse screams made her chest tighten.
