"I shall leave you then to your new discoveries," Maybelle said softly as she stood up ready to leave the green chambers.
"Oh, thank you, Maybelle," Candice replied, momentarily forgetting that she was there at all.
Candice stood pressing the journal against her chest for a long moment, letting the light from the vessels pool over her like a cloak. The faint hum in the room seemed to pulse with her heartbeat. Somewhere deep inside, she felt it: the stirrings of her mother's magic, calling her name.
She dared a small gesture, lifting her hand toward a crystal vessel. The water shimmered, and then sprang into the air like a tiny fountain, splashing over the edge. Candice yelped and leapt back, sending her chair toppling. The green light wavered, as if chuckling.
"Oh…that's probably normal, right?" she whispered to the empty room, rubbing her palms together.
