"BLEGH!" A young man vomited blood on the asphalt below him. The cause was a large horn impaling his torso. The creature responsible, the Cow Devil, flung him off its horn. The young man flew into a nearby wall and left a decent crater. As he slid down the wall, staring death in the face, a smile crept onto his face.
"Thank you, Zappy. I will forever cherish you in my heart." The young man, Tatsuki Inazuma, whispered and closed his eyes.

[6 years ago, December 25th, 1990.]
"I guess Santa didn't give me any presents again…" A young Tatsuki sniffled as he stared at the empty makeshift Christmas tree. He wiped away his tears and walked to the kitchen where cookies and milk, intended for Santa, laid on the counter. He took the plate and made his way upstairs. His father was an executive of a pretty large corporation, so the house he had was a luxurious one might say. But it was always empty. His father hardly ever came home and when he did, he avoided Tatsuki like the plague. No matter how Tatsuki approached his father, the man would never bat an eye at his son.
In Tatsuki's mind, his father was good for nothing except money and a roof over his head. As he walked into his silent room, he heard rustling from behind his house. He placed his milk and cookies down before grabbing the bat he kept under his bed.
"What the heck was that?!" He whispered to himself as he peered out the window. He couldn't see anyone nor did he see any footsteps in the heavy snow. Yet his child-like curiosity and imagination led him to believe his home was about to be invaded.
"I won't let my fortress be taken over by the forces of evil!" He shouted as he ran downstairs. He quickly put on his coat and boots before running out the back door. Expecting aliens or monsters creeping upon his house, Tatsuki was disappointed to be met with the chilling cold wind and silence.
"I guess even aliens don't want anything to do with me…" The young boy said dejectedly and pivoted his body to walk back into his house, until he heard a meow.
"Kitty?" Tatsuki said to himself as he began to track the meowing. Eventually, he found the source lying at the doors of his shed. It was a small black kitten that was bleeding profusely out of its side. It had a lightning bolt on its forehead, but that's a detail Tatsuki initially missed due to him frantically yet carefully picking the kitten up.
"Oh my gosh, what do I even do?!" Tatsuki yelled as he paced around with tears in his eyes. He saw on TV that if you applied pressure to a wound the bleeding would stop, but he didn't know how to do that with a kitten.
The kitten meowed weakly and Tatsuki carefully picked it up, "I-I'm sorry kitty! I'm too useless to help you, I'm so sorry!"
Tears flowed like a river out of his eyes, which made him unaware of the kitten's tiny jaws clamping on his thumb.
"Ouch!" He almost dropped the kitten out of reflex but retained control. The kitten on the other hand was lapping the blood that came out of his thumb. Within a few seconds, the wound on its side completely healed and the kitten was like new.
"D-Did you just drink my blood to heal?" Tatsuki asked in between sniffling. With the realization that he let a devil in his house hitting him like a truck, he almost grabbed his bat but the devil kitten was rubbing its body against his leg.
"So, um, what kind of devil are you? The Kitten devil?" Tatsuki laughed until he felt a strong electric shock zap his leg. The kitten was flicking its tail quickly, indicating its displeasure at Tatsuki's joke.
"Sorry, sorry." Tatsuki said while rubbing his leg. He examined the kitten again and noticed the lightning bolt on top of its head.
"I see! You must be like the Static Shock devil!" He exclaimed which earned him another zap on the leg. Tatsuki was knocked to the ground and the kitten jumped onto his chest.
"I give up! You're just gonna zap me again if I saw anything wrong!" The kitten 'smiled' showing how right Tatsuki was.
From there, Tatsuki learned the cat devil he adopted was a female and loved to zap him whenever she was displeased by any of his actions, which is how he came up with the name Zappy. Zappy was the first friend Tatsuki ever made, and was his only friend throughout elementary, middle, and the beginning of high school.

[September 15th, 1996, 5 minutes before Tatsuki gets impaled.]
"And then I tried continuing our conversation but it was cut short by her boyfriend, that bastard Megumi Fujimoto!" Tatsuki seethed as he vented to Zappy who was sitting in his bike's basket. Tatsuki liked to ride his bike at night because first, it was quiet, and second, he enjoyed the workout it gave him.
They were riding at the bottom of the hill where his house resides. There was a lush forest nearby but the only animals that he's ever seen were deer and a few squirrels, so imagine his surprise when a giant, bipedal, four-armed cow thing jumped right in front of him.
He quickly squeezed the brakes on his bike. He wasted no time and began pedaling the opposite direction at full speed.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" He yelled in shock. His mind was focused on nothing but escaping with Zappy. But the speed of a bike could never hope to surpass a devil. In what seemed like an instant, the Cow Devil was standing right in front of him. The devil swatted Tatsuki off his bike, sending him flying into the guard rail.
"How lucky I am, encountering a late-night snack while on my nightly stroll!" The Cow Devil laughed loudly. He slowly walked towards Tatsuki paying Zappy no mind. Using this to her advantage, she quickly climbed up his body and once she was on top of his head, she shocked him with as much electricity as her body could conjure, which was around 1 million volts. Blue electricity coursed through the Cow Devil's body causing his fur to singe and his skin to burn. Zappy lost consciousness and fell to the ground. However, Tatsuki, powered by adrenaline, managed to catch her before she hit the ground.
He picked up his bike with his remaining good arm as his left arm was shattered to oblivion. He stuffed Zappy in his bike's basket and began riding away from the stunned Cow Devil at full speed.
"YOU LITTLE SHITS! I'LL TEAR YOU BOTH TO PIECES!!!" The Cow Devil roared in rage. He got into a running position and pointed his head down.
*BOOM*
He propelled himself off the ground with enough force to leave a deep pothole in the road. Within 1.5 seconds, he had already crossed the 300 meter difference between him and Tatsuki. His horn easily pierced through Tatsuki's torso and his bike was sent crashing over the guard rail.
"Z-Zappy! BLEGH!" Tatsuki vomited a lethal amount of blood. The Cow Devil flung him into the hillside wall and Tatsuki's final moments were of his cat. The Cow Devil crushed his skull with glee.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA! THAT'S ONE PIECE OF SHIT DEAD, NOW WHERE IS THAT DAMN CAT?!" The Cow Devil yelled while licking Tatsuki's blood off his fist. Suddenly, a blinding flash of blue light emerged from the forest and before the Cow Devil could process anything, both of his arms were torn off.
Holding them was a tall, feminine appearing mass of lightning. It lacked eyes, had a mouth full of serrated teeth, and multiple silver rods extended out of its back. Once the Cow Devil's brain caught up to the current events he quickly turned his head to his new foe.
"You should've died when I shocked you earlier. Not only have you forced me to use my real appearance, but you even killed my dear friend…" Zappy solemnly said as she turned to face the Cow Devil, who had a look of shock on his grotesque face.
She pointed her finger at the Cow Devil and a thick column of lightning immediately struck. The sheer heat from the lightning bolt reduced the devil to ashes. Zappy then scooped Tatsuki's body up.
"I'm sorry I let you die, Tatsuki. Let me repay the kindness you showed me that fateful night." Zappy smiled as she placed her hand over his heart. Soon her form began to coalesce inside of his body. His wounds quickly regenerated and Zappy became his new heart.
His head regenerated last, ending Zappy's physical existence, but she now lives on, in Tatsuki's heart.
