Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Poor Quintaped!

Lockhart's reputation was in ruins, so he had disappeared for a while. But when he reappeared, he decided to play big!

An open class! And not just any open class, but one for the entire school!

Although he was annoying, he was still a professor, and he had the right to do this.

Because of the large number of attendees, this open class wasn't held in a regular classroom but was arranged in the Great Hall.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the lesson I will be teaching you today is how to deal with a Class XXXXX magical creature—the Quintaped!"

As soon as these words were spoken, gasps erupted from the students. However, all the professors observing the class collectively changed their expressions. Even Dumbledore, who had been smiling, put away his smile, his gaze flickering as he looked at Lockhart.

Snape didn't waste a second. He immediately drew his wand, his eyes locked dead on Lockhart. If a crisis occurred, his first spell absolutely wouldn't be aimed at the Quintaped, but at Lockhart!

This nuisance was simply too irritating. Why not take this opportunity to quietly finish him off... No, killing him wouldn't do. Hogwarts couldn't afford another murder case. But half-dead shouldn't be a problem.

Coincidentally, Owen was thinking the exact same thing. Only his thoughts went a bit deeper. He wanted to use this chance to test if Lockhart was being possessed. The green light of the Killing Curse was unique and too obvious. But the red light of the Cruciatus Curse was dark red. If one didn't look closely or hear the incantation, it looked very similar to the Disarming Charm. He just wondered if the Cruciatus Curse could affect two souls at once.

As for the Imperius Curse, Owen hadn't even considered using it. For an Unforgivable Curse, being able to control only a single individual felt a bit overrated. It didn't even need a counter-curse; if one's will was strong enough, the spell was useless. Simply walking out with one's own will was basically immunity.

Don't ask why Owen knew this, and don't underestimate the old Dark Lord... even without a wand, the intensity of his Unforgivable Curses was not low at all.

Lockhart noticed the professors' reactions, but he wasn't afraid. In fact, he looked confident. "Alright, enough talk. Now, please watch how I subdue the Quintaped!"

With that, he waved his wand, opening the cage opposite him. A foot covered in reddish-brown hair stepped out, followed by a second. Then, the Quintaped fully revealed itself to the crowd.

Owen raised an eyebrow. He was genuinely surprised. It was a real Quintaped, not some transfigured fake made from a cat or dog?

The students might not be able to tell the difference, their hearts racing just from looking at the terrifying creature. But the professors were different. Like Owen, they were incredibly shocked. Lockhart had actually managed to capture a Quintaped?

Capturing one alive was proof enough of ability. A monster like this usually required a squad of Aurors to handle.

Was this still the same man who got chased away by a group of Cornish Pixies?

"Everyone, watch closely. See how I deal with this Quintaped!"

Lockhart was hyped up. He raised his wand, pointing it at the Quintaped. "Reducto!"

The spell fired, but its aim was wildly off. Instead of hitting the Quintaped's head, it aimed for the midsection and veered left. The Quintaped merely twisted its body and dodged the spell. The Quintaped dodged it, but Professor Flitwick, standing behind the creature, couldn't dodge. The little professor, face darkening, simply flicked his wand and deflected the spell into the ceiling, successfully... knocking down some dust...

Missed?

The confidence on Lockhart's face froze. He immediately explained, "That was just a warm-up. Next... Incendio!"

This time, there were no surprises. No fire appeared at all. Only a wisp of black smoke drifted from the tip of his wand.

The Quintaped didn't care about explanations. Extremely hostile toward humans, it locked onto Lockhart and charged. Lockhart panicked. Abandoning any explanation, he immediately tried a third spell. "Stupefy!"

Unfortunately, it still didn't work... Under panic, his already unreliable spellcasting became even worse. Just as he was about to resort to his signature Memory Charm, the Quintaped was already in front of him. One of its feet stomped down heavily. Lockhart instinctively dodged, so the potentially fatal stomp only broke one of his legs.

"AAAAHHH!!!!"

A pig-like squeal instantly echoed through the Great Hall. The scream was so loud it startled the Quintaped, causing it to take a step back.

Pity... if it hadn't stepped back, it could have landed another kick.

Owen waved his wand, deflecting several spells the professors fired at the Quintaped. Then, under the surprised gazes of the staff, Owen started calling names. "Mr. Malfoy, please begin your performance."

Draco froze for a second, then drew his wand and charged forward. Running, he fired his first spell. "Locomotor Mortis!"

The moment the curse hit, the Quintaped's five hairy legs locked tightly together. Before it could even fall over, Draco's second spell followed. "Levicorpus!"

Watching the Quintaped being hoisted upside down by its ankle, Owen quietly glanced to the side. Sure enough, Professor Snape's face instantly turned black. Although he didn't know why, Owen knew Snape hated that spell the most!

Draco, you're narrowing your own path...

"Alright, Mr. Malfoy, you may return to your seat."

"Huh?"

Draco was about to run up to the stage. Hearing Owen, he froze in place. But seeing Owen smiling at him and hearing "Ten points to Slytherin," he switched his stunned expression to a polite smile, bowed, and then ran back to his seat.

"Next, Miss Granger."

After calling her name, the suspended Quintaped dropped to the floor. Hermione stood up but had no intention of running up. She waved her wand from her spot. "Petrificus Totalus! Petrificus Totalus! Petrificus Totalus!"

Perhaps lacking confidence, Hermione fired three Petrification Curses within two seconds. The Quintaped stiffened instantly.

"Ten points to Gryffindor! Next, Cho Chang."

In the Ravenclaw section, a witch stood up. Like Hermione, she waved her wand from where she stood. "Stupefy! Stupefy! Stupefy! Stupefy!"

This girl was even less confident. In her mind, if Hermione used three spells, she surely needed four, right?

Thus, the Quintaped, which had just regained mobility, fell straight into unconsciousness...'
