This web novel is going to read very differently from most. The reason is simple; it's based on an actual playthrough of Baldur's Gate 1: Enhanced Edition and is meant to act as a strategy guide for new players. A dramatized strategy guide, if you will.
By dramatization, that means I'll be telling a story rather than just report what happens in my playthrough every step of the way. The playthrough is real though, and let me tell you writing in this manner is much more time-consuming than writing and playing the game combined. I have to play the game, take notes on what happened in detail, report the events then retell the events in a dramatic fashion. So each update takes some time.
Why am I doing this story in such a tedious manner rather than, say, just writing it out based on memory? Because I would love for my readers to play the game themselves later. Throughout this playthrough, I'm going to liberally describe tactics and some of the cheesier strategies available. A strategy guide, if you will. A story-based strategy guide.
So think of this novel as a walkthrough for a game YOU can actually play and then cheese the hell out of Baldur's Gate using my tips. And I try to make the story as entertaining as possible so reading my tips comes easily. You get to read a fun novel, and you become the hero of your own actual adventure. Super win-win all the way for you guys, right?
And hey, you get to watch me lose my sanity trying to narrate inexplicable gaming conventions! What fun! (gah!)
Who knows, I may even continue this dramatization once I reach Baldur's Gate 2 with this halfling. And then Throne of Bhaal expansion. Baldur's Gate 3? The possibly upcoming BG4?
