Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Kara Zor-El

"Ah, what a wonderful day."

Stepping out of the hotel and looking up at the clear, sunny sky, Lucas Reed couldn't help stretching lazily.

Beside him, Elaine asked curiously, "So where are we going today?"

"Nowhere in particular," Lucas said with a carefree grin.

"We're just going to wander around."

With that, he set off down the street.

Elaine was puzzled, but she also found it interesting. She was growing more and more curious about Lucas.

She especially enjoyed trying to guess what he was thinking without using mind-reading—

it was a sensation she had never experienced during her long, monotonous past.

The two of them strolled aimlessly through the city.

In truth, Lucas didn't have a concrete plan either. His goal was someone in this international city, but he couldn't exactly show up at their door unannounced.

Moreover, there was another person in the city he also intended to make contact with—and first impressions with that individual were extremely important.

If he approached too rashly and caused a misunderstanding, it could seriously disrupt his plans.

As he looked at the shops lining the streets and the crowds passing by, Lucas felt as though he had returned to his original world.

But he knew that was only an illusion.

Whether it was the Marvel or DC world, ordinary people were nothing more than ants in the eyes of true powerhouses. A single large-scale battle could claim countless lives without anyone even realizing it.

Lucas was grateful that his original world had been free of such inhuman beings.

Fortunately, this international city was relatively peaceful.

It wasn't like Gotham, where clowns and riddler-level lunatics caused chaos daily.

Nor was it Metropolis, where godlike beings fought battles capable of leveling entire districts.

And it certainly wasn't New York, an alien hotspot where city-destroying events happened at the drop of a hat.

In those places, you might be drinking coffee one second—and be completely erased from existence the next.

---

Just as Lucas was walking and thinking, a sudden crash of shattering glass rang out ahead, followed by blaring alarms echoing down the street.

Moments later, a pickup truck and a van burst out from a side street, speeding straight toward them.

Bank robbers.

That much was obvious. After all, this was the gun-loving land of freedom—another exciting day in America.

Seeing the vehicles barreling toward him, Lucas flashed into the middle of the road.

"Shit!"

The driver hadn't expected someone to suddenly appear in front of them.

But there was no time to stop. The accelerator was slammed down, and the truck charged forward, intent on running Lucas over.

Just as Lucas was about to intercept the pickup—

A blur crossed his vision.

A slender figure suddenly appeared in front of him.

Boom!

The speeding pickup slammed into her, the front of the vehicle crumpling instantly with a thunderous impact.

The massive inertia lifted the rear of the truck into the air before it crashed back down onto the road.

"Are you okay?"

A face as delicate as a porcelain doll appeared before Lucas.

Her sapphire-blue eyes were as clear and deep as the ocean.

"I'm fine," Lucas replied calmly.

Though surprised by her composure, Kara turned away and began efficiently dealing with the remaining robbers.

Lucas stepped aside, carefully observing the Girl of Steel.

Despite being Clark's cousin, Kara possessed a head of radiant golden hair.

Her posture was upright, her movements explosive and fluid—like a cheetah mid-sprint—

and her figure carried a powerful yet graceful beauty.

Her skin, unlike that of most Westerners, was smooth and refined, almost like silk.

"Hey," Elaine whispered from beside him,

"it's very rude to stare at a lady like that."

"So what if I admire a beautiful woman?" Lucas shot back unapologetically.

"What law does that break?"

Elaine leaned back instinctively.

'Why is this guy suddenly acting like this…?'

Up ahead, Kara finished handling the situation and briefly glanced back at them before flying off to intercept the escaping van.

"Hmm~"

Elaine suddenly pointed at Lucas.

"I get it now. You didn't come to this city just for sightseeing—you came here for her, didn't you?"

"Mind your own business," Lucas scoffed, his eyes still following Kara.

He knew she had already heard every word with her super-hearing.

Sure enough, once Kara finished dealing with the robbers, she flew back and landed in front of Lucas.

"You came here to find me?" she asked, puzzled.

"That's right," Lucas said directly.

"Kara Zor-El. One of the main reasons I came to this city was for you."

Kara frowned slightly.

"How do you know that name?"

"From your cousin—Kal-El," Lucas replied with a smile.

"My name is Lucas Reed. You can call me Lucas."

She pressed on, still wary.

"He rarely tells anyone about me. Why did you come looking for me?"

"Because he said he had a beautiful, charming cousin in this city," Lucas replied smoothly,

"and told me to visit if I ever passed through—to make a friend."

"Now that I've met you, I can confirm something."

Kara's expression eased slightly.

"And what would that be?"

"He lied."

Her brows knit again. "Why?"

"Because the moment I saw you," Lucas said earnestly,

"it was as if I had glimpsed a legendary angel—noble, pure, washing away the dust from my soul."

"And then I saw those sapphire-blue eyes of yours—so clear, so captivating, they steal one's heart."

"..."

Elaine stared in shock.

Kara froze completely.

Lucas continued praising her without pause.

"So tell me," he concluded, looking at her with a grin,

"wasn't Kal-El lying?"

Kara's cheeks flushed bright red.

She had never heard such praise in her life.

On Krypton, no one praised her.

On Earth, she lived quietly due to her identity.

And as Supergirl, people marveled at her power—rarely her appearance.

In the end, no matter how powerful a woman was, she was still a woman.

"Wait for me a moment!"

Before Lucas could respond, Kara vanished.

A few seconds later—

"Hey."

A gentle, warm voice sounded from a nearby alley.

Lucas turned and saw Kara again—now dressed as an ordinary girl—waving at him.

"Why don't you go back to the hotel?" Lucas suddenly asked.

"No," Elaine replied instantly.

"That would be boring."

"You realize you're ruining my moment, right?" Lucas said seriously.

"No," Elaine countered.

"I can help. I'll be your wingman."

"Lucas?" Kara asked in confusion from nearby.

Lucas sighed softly.

"…Just be careful."

He then hurried over to greet Kara.

"There's a café up ahead," Kara said gently.

"The coffee there is pretty good. You don't mind, do you?"

"Of course not," Lucas replied with a bright smile.

"I love coffee."

Behind them, Elaine curled her lips, silently mocking him.
