Chapter 45 - Shadows war

Aria stood before the Dark Mage, the wind around her charged with magical energy. The sky, stained with a menacing gray, reflected the imminent clash about to erupt. The mage's cold, calculating gaze contrasted sharply with the burning determination in Aria's eyes.

"So you're the so-called 'Shadow Summoner' I've heard so much about?" the Dark Mage mocked, raising a gloved hand covered in runes. "Let's see if you can survive true darkness."

In the palm of his hand, an orb of dark energy began to form, pulsing with palpable malice.

Aria did not answer with words.

Her magic spoke for her.

She extended her arm, and the shadows around her came alive. From the ground emerged spectral creatures—twisted forms with glowing eyes radiating fury. They were her shadow summons, ready to protect her and strike at her command.

The Dark Mage hurled the orb straight at Aria, but one of her beasts leapt forward, absorbing the impact before dissolving into nothingness.

"Interesting…" the mage murmured, snapping his fingers.

Beside him, the air tore open into a jagged rift, from which grotesque figures made of pure dark energy emerged. Their fangs and claws gleamed with malevolent light as they charged toward Aria's creatures.

---

Aria's hands moved with flawless precision, commanding her summons like an orchestra conductor. Her creatures fought ferociously, colliding with the mage's constructs in a frenzied dance of darkness and shadow.

"Shadow Chains!" Aria shouted.

Spectral shadows materialized, binding the enemy creatures and tightening like supernatural shackles, giving her a brief opening to attack directly.

The Dark Mage burst into laughter and dispelled the chains with a simple flick of his wrist.

"Is that all? You should know that true darkness cannot be bound."

With a swift gesture, he unleashed a torrent of dark energy that swept across the battlefield like a devastating wave. Aria reacted on instinct, raising a barrier of shadows that deflected part of the attack. Even so, the impact forced her back several steps, her breathing ragged from the strain.

"This won't be easy…" she murmured.

She then summoned one of her most powerful creatures—a shadow wolf, its eyes burning like smoldering embers. The beast roared and lunged at the mage at blinding speed, forcing him to retreat for the first time.

The mage's smile faltered—just for an instant.

"So you do have talent after all. But now… let's play seriously."

---

He raised both hands, and the ground began to tremble. A colossal pillar of dark energy rose around him, enveloping him like a cocoon. From within emerged a gigantic demon of pure darkness, with twisted horns and massive wings that devoured the light around them.

Aria stared at the creature with a mix of awe and fear… but she did not retreat.

"If darkness is what you desire," she said firmly, "then I'll face you with one even greater."

She closed her eyes and channeled all her energy into a single spell. The shadows churned violently, and from them emerged several colossal beings:

a spectral dragon, a shadow phoenix, and a towering titan wielding a spear forged from pure night.

The battle reached a new level.

Titans clashed in a devastating spectacle of raw power, while Aria and the Dark Mage exchanged spells capable of annihilating everything around them.

---

Despite the chaos, Aria felt her limits closing in. Her magic demanded an enormous price, and with every passing second her body grew heavier. But surrender was not an option—not when her companions' lives depended on her.

"For my kingdom… for my people!" she shouted, throwing herself back into the fight.

Determined to prove that darkness could not only be controlled…

but also used to protect.
