The capital was quiet when they arrived.
Nathan rode at the front of the group with Moonlight slung across his back, his eyes moving over the empty streets. This was the same city that had been full of merchants, children, and couples laughing on every corner. Now the doors were barred and the windows were shuttered.
The only people out were the soldiers on patrol. Their faces were pale, and their hands never strayed far from their weapons.
