Nobody slept much that night.
Gerald sat with his back to a tree and his sword across his knees. Faen sat next to the envoy and watched the blindfold. Nathan sat a little apart from both of them, and for a long time nobody said anything.
Finally Gerald broke the silence.
"Who is Lucy?"
Nathan didn't answer right away.
"You don't have to tell me," Gerald said. "But that man used her name to threaten you. And your face went white when he said it."
"She's... my sister," Nathan said. "She's twelve. She's back home. On the other side of the Void."
Gerald was quiet.
"I never told anyone here about her," Nathan said. "Not the prince. Not Kenji. Nobody."
"Then how does he know?"
"I don't know." Nathan looked at his hands. "Either he can see into my head, or he can see into my world. I don't like either answer."
Faen closed his notebook.
"I may be able to tell you something," he said. "Not about your sister. About him."
