In a hospital room, the continuous beeping sound of the electrocardiogram filled the air, accompanied by the slow drip of the IV.
The unconscious Jack lay on the hospital bed, dressed in a white hospital gown.
A young girl sat down beside his bed, her hands holding Jack's, tears in her eyes.
"Brother Jack, why are you doing this to Mom and me? Do you know how sad we are ?"
"Mom doesn't even go to work because of how sad she is about you, and you just left me alone, I thought you said I was your baby sister and you loved me, if this is true please wake up"
Brother Jack, tomorrow is the awakening ceremony. Even if you don't love us, you surely do want to become an awakened, Emma cried out, burying her face in Jack's chest.
Jack, who was already awake halfway through her conversation, couldn't finally hold it when he heard her say even if you don't love us.
The sobbing Emma felt something touch her head, and she finally heard the voice she had been longing for, her brother's voice, for the last two months.
"Silly girl, you know you broke my heart with what you just said". "I am only interested in awakening because I love both of you". Jack smiles weakly.
"Brother Jack!" Emma's cry spilled out more as she heard her brother's voice, and she buried her face in his chest.
"Baby sister, you are breaking my heart with your tears. I may fall unconscious and not wake up for years".
"No, No, No", Emma clumsily wiped her tears, panicking. "Brother Jack, I promise I will stop crying, don't leave me alone", she hiccupped.
"Fine, baby sister, I won't leave you. I was just joking", Jack managed to chuckle.
"You just woke up, and you are already teasing me", she said, and they both laughed. At that moment, the room's door opened, and the woman who was about to walk in froze as she saw Jack awake.
Emma and Jack's gaze moved towards the door.
"Mummy, brother Jack is finally awake." Emma runs towards her, wrapping her small arms around her mother.
"Mum it's been a while, I'm so sorry for making you sad", Jack forced a smile.
The food box in her hand hit the ground with a thud as she hurried towards him
"Silly boy, don't say that, I'm happy that you are okay". She smiled as she wiped her tears.
"Let me call the nurse". She grabbed the hospital phone, and she dialed the nurse call system number.
"Hello nurse, please come to room 212 my son is awake".
Later that day, when Jack was discharged after confirming he was strangely strong enough to leave, they were on their way back home.
Emma held Jack's hand tightly as if he was going to escape if she let go, "brother Jack, you are so amazing, can't believe you killed a lizard".
"Stubborn girl, I told you it's not an ordinary lizard, it's a camo lizard".
"What's the difference when it's still a lizard?" she pouted.
"Since you want to be stubborn then I'd go back to the hospital", Jack smirked.
Panicking, Emma hurriedly apologized, "Okay, brother Jack, I'm sorry, it's a camp lizard".
"Camo Lizard, not camp Lizard", Jack chuckled.
"Jack, stop teasing your sister with that silly thing. It's not fair", their mother's voice came from the side, and Jack laughed.
"Mom you don't sleep well, look at the dark circles under your eyes", Jack said worriedly.
"Silly boy, how do you expect me to sleep well when you are in the hospital?" She put her hand on Jack's head.
"Mum, I'm sorry for making you worry", Jack felt guilty for causing his mother several sleepless nights.
"It's good that you are sorry, but do you know how many people admired what you did?" Emma said with stars in her eyes, "You actually fought and killed a lizard, just wait till we get home and see how people praise you".
"Mum, is tomorrow really the awakening ceremony?" he asked in surprise.
"Yes, it's tomorrow", she nodded with a smile.
"Damn can't believe I was out for that long", he said in disbelief.
"It's a miracle that you pulled through, doctors said that the poison had already spread throughout your body, and it's possible that you may not survive".
"But Mum, how did I get admitted into the VIP section of the hospital? How did you afford it? Jack was totally surprised. He knew his mother couldn't afford the VIP section of the hospital, but he still got admitted there.
"You were admitted to the normal section of the hospital, when the doctor said you may not survive". "Someone paid for you to be transferred into the VIP section, his mother explained".
"Mom, do you know the person who paid for the VIP section?" he asked.
"No I don't", she shook her head.
"Hey, Jack!"
Jack heard someone call his name, and he looked to the side where the voice came from.
"Hey", he waves as he sees two boys approaching him, one dressed in a yellow shirt and trousers, while the other is dressed in a blue shirt and trousers. His mother walked ahead while his sister held his hand as they waited for the boys to approach.
"Hey Jack, you know us, right?" the one dressed in a blue shirt asked.
Jack could tell that they were his classmates, but he had no clue what their names were, "You are my classmate, right?"
"Yes, we are", I thought you wouldn't recognize us, the one dressed in yellow replied.
"So when did you get discharged from the hospital?" the one dressed in yellow asked.
"I just left the hospital", he replied.
"Just now!", the one dressed in yellow exclaimed, "that's still good as it would be bad for someone as brave as you to miss the awakening ceremony".
"Yeah, I can't believe you killed a camo lizard all on your own", the guy dressed in blue chimes in eagerly.
"You guys are praising me for what I didn't do alone, Tom deserves most of the credit, if not for him, I might be dead", Jack smiles.
The guy in blue smiled, "You did most of the work", "I wasn't in class, back then all the students that ran out of the classroom kept shouting Jack's fighting a camo lizard, no one even came in to help you they just called the warriors and waited for their arrival". "By the time they came the camo lizard was already dead and you were unconscious".
"Isn't my brother really amazing?" Emma leans forward with a bright smile.
"Yes, your brother is really amazing, little girl", the two boys laughed.
"I have to go". "Don't want to keep my mum waiting", Jack said, already growing tired of the conversation.
"Let's not delay you any longer, we will meet tomorrow at the Grand Hall for the awakening ceremony", the boy in blue said.
"Yeah, best of luck tomorrow", Jack waved as he walked away with his sister.
"Brother Jack, you see, you're so amazing, when it's my 10th birthday, I will surely kill my own lizard", she boasted with her chest puffed out.
"I hear you", Jack laughed.
"You don't believe me, right?" Emma frowned.
"What! Of course, I believe you", Jack smirked. "Look, I can't see mum up ahead, she would have gone far" so let's run".
"Brother Jack, are you sure you can run? You just left the hospital", Emma asked with concern.
"How about a race to show you how strong I've become", he began jogging forward.
"No, I didn't want that". She moved secretly behind him, and she jumped on his back. "How about you give me a piggyback ride till we get home to show how strong you are".
"Get down from my back, didn't I tell you not to just jump on my back suddenly? "Jack playfully tried to remove her arms wrapped around his neck.
"Hmph, I know you don't love me anymore". Emma slowly slid down his back.
Fine, I will give you the piggyback only today, Jack began running.
"Brother is the best".
