Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 — Lied By Hope

The door opened.

Dr. William walked in with his white coat and cold eyes.

He looked at Iris like she was only an object.

He checked her body. Took her blood. Wrote notes.

After some time, he turned to Veronica.

"She is perfect. Strong body. Good subject."

Veronica's eyes lit up.

"Good," she said quietly. "Then afflict her with the disease."

Dr. William nodded.

Iris felt fear climb up her throat.

"The… disease?" she whispered.

Veronica smiled softly — cruel.

"The Red Death Virus."

Her voice was calm.

"A virus that weakens the body, destroys life slowly, spreads by blood — and makes people crave human blood."

Vance smiled.

"If we find the antidote, we save the mayor's son. They invest money in us. We become powerful."

He looked at Iris.

"Start."

They injected the virus into her.

Pain came slowly.

Then stronger.

Her body shook with fever. Her vision blurred. She cried, but the doctor only took notes.

Day and night passed.

They tested her.Cut her.Injected her.Watched her suffer.

Iris prayed.Cried.Remembered her family.

Her heart hurt more than her body.

Then one day…

Dr. William smiled.

"Success. We found the antidote."

The room filled with excitement.

Veronica walked to Iris — calm, proud.

She leaned close to Dr. William and whispered something in his ear.

He nodded.

Then Veronica faced Iris.

"Thank you, fool. Because of you, we are successful."

Iris was weak, trembling.

"What… happens to me?" she asked softly.

Veronica pretended to think.

"If you beg me, I will give you the antidote," she said. "And free you from this disease."

Iris wanted to keep her pride.

But she thought of her family.

Her life.

Her pain.

She bowed her head.

"Please," she whispered. "Save me… I don't want to die."

Veronica smiled.

"That's better."

She turned to Dr. William.

"Give her the antidote."

He filled a syringe.

He walked closer.

The needle entered Iris's arm.

At first — nothing.

Then suddenly — fire filled her chest.

Her throat tightened. She couldn't breathe. Her hands grabbed her neck as if something was choking her from inside.

Her eyes widened.

She looked at Veronica — terrified.

Veronica leaned closer, her voice soft like poison.

"This is not the antidote."

Her smile grew colder.

"This is poison."

Iris's body shook. Her breath became shorter and shorter.

Tears slipped down her face.

In her final moments — they were laughing. Happy. Victorious.

Her heart cracked.

But deep inside, something burned.

If I get a second chance…I will kill them. One by one.

Her last thought went to her family.

"I'm… sorry…"

And then—

Darkness.

Silence.

Pain.

Iris Hollow died with revenge in her heart.
