"Are you okay?" Gilbert questioned Laila for the fifth time that night, dabbing a cotton pad against her split lip, the injury left behind after the Supreme Alpha had struck her.
Though werewolves healed fast, an injury dealt by an Alpha didn't heal nearly as quickly, which was exactly why most people respected his word enough to avoid getting hit in the first place. He ran the cotton, soaked in antiseptic, gently around the injured spot, looking into her emerald eyes as she gave him a small nod.
"I'm fine," she said, then pulled her head away from his tending hand and turned instead to Matt, who was pacing around the room.
"What are we going to do now?" She asked, since their plan to uncover Victoria's true identity had failed spectacularly and backfired into her getting struck for doing nothing wrong at all.
