Bella's POV
I entered the Winter Wing, my confidence wavering as I took in the scene before me.
Phoebe was on her knees in the center of the courtyard, trembling violently.
The moment she saw me, her head snapped up in panic, eyes flooded with terror and tears. "Miss," she sobbed, "I messed up! I know how badly I screwed up! I swear I'll never overstep again!"
Phoebe had seen what happened to Daisy with her own eyes, and she knew deep down that the same fate awaited her.
Any dreams Phoebe had of moving up in the world were finally crushed.
Genevieve's cruelty had opened Phoebe's eyes—Daisy's destruction today would be hers tomorrow.
After blurting that out, she was terrified I'd ship her back to Genevieve.
Phoebe was desperate to stay. She shuffled closer on her knees, begging, "Miss Fairfax, please, don't make me go back!"
If I return to Genevieve, I'm dead, she thought frantically.
