Amara's POV
The next morning, I made it to school exactly on time.
Students who'd just grabbed breakfast from the cafeteria were slowly filtering back to class.
Penelope was nowhere to be seen today, and Jasper sat at his desk, barely stifling a yawn.
"Amara, you made it."
"Yep." I gave a quick nod, tossing my backpack carelessly into the desk compartment.
Jasper looked like he wanted to speak but kept hesitating, clearly struggling with where to start.
I decided to cut through the awkwardness. "Word is your family's business hit some rough waters."
"Ah, it's really not that big a deal." Jasper scratched the back of his neck with a dismissive grin. "Dad's company handles situations like this constantly. Just keeps him occupied for a while. I'm pretty used to it by now."
His casual attitude wasn't some show of respect for his father.
To him, this genuinely wasn't worth worrying about.
