Dominic's POV
I shrugged off their concern. "They're nobody special. Probably just some expendable scout testing the waters. I'm actually curious to see what they'll try."
Amara shot back, "When trouble finds you, don't count on me to bail you out."
"Come on, you act tough but you're soft underneath. Even if you won't help for personal reasons, I know you'd rescue me for the cash."
Amara stayed silent, her expression cold as she headed toward a quieter area.
"Hey, hold up while I grab my jacket!" I called after her. "Seriously, these temperature swings between day and night are getting ridiculous..."
We strolled casually along the sidewalk.
But rush hour had hit, and we were smack in the middle of the business district.
Amara and I wandered for what felt like forever without finding anywhere our tail could make their move safely.
