Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Dinner Invitation

"What? Why are we leaving?" Sarah questioned, her face contorted in confusion as she looked towards a panicked Celene.

"Because it's probably about to get really messy here." Celene responded as she looked towards Cyrus. "Cyrus, how old would you say Nadir is?"

As he saw the panicked state Celene was in Cyrus's brow furrowed. "Around twenty-five, thirty at the oldest."

Celene jumped a bit and frantically started collect the things they had brought into the room with them. "Yeah we absolutely need to go, or at least I need to."

As he heard her plea Cyrus nodded his head and immediately started to join Celene in stripping the room of their belongings. As the two did Sarah stood in the middle of the room in utter shock and bewilderment. Her mind raced, why were they doing such a thing. Celene had explained nothing and yet Cyrus blindly followed her lead it made no sense! They couldn't just leave, Nadir had a core and at the moment he was refusing to join them, they had to stay until he agreed to leave. Sarah stomped her foot against the ground as her confused mind prioritized one thing and one thing alone, her duty as an angel.

"We're going nowhere, until Nadir joins us we go nowhere." She commanded, a cold gaze shot from her onto Celene.

Celene's brow furrowed. "You don't get it, I don't care if you're an angel you're not stopping me. I'm not being put in chains ever again."

"Then explain why the hell we're leaving!"

Celene grumbled and let out a huff. "Nadir didn't actually murder his mother. She died giving birth to him and he's about thirty years old. That's around the same time canine's started searching for Djinn again." She explained

As she put all the pieces together for Sarah she clicked her teeth and started to bite one of her nails. She needed to assemble all the core users and yet a major obstacle had presented itself. "Well just hide your identity until we leave, only Nadir knows right now we can-"

"His brother already saw me and plans to tell their father its too late for that."

Sarah bit down on her finger even harder as the need to leave grew larger and larger. Cyrus and Celene had already gathered their things, Cyrus carried a small sack with all of their things as they headed to the door and opened it up. But on the other side of the door was a tall and slender canine woman draped in golds and jewels. Her gaze pierced down onto the small group of four, her eyes scanned them up and down and they locked on to Celene's ears and her skin that seemed to sparkle and swirl ever so slightly. Her maw curled into a grin, her sharp fangs showing themselves off.

"And where are y'all going at this time of night. They just finished making dinner." She jeered as she licked her lips.

As that gaze pierced through her body shivers ran through Celene's entire body. The memories of her past came flooding back into her. That cold dehumanizing gaze that she tried so desperately to escape had come back. The gaze of that lizardman, the gaze of every single person that had owned her before surrounded her. Every angle, every nook and cranny of her body was trapped by that gaze as her body began to tremble. Her knees buckled and the strength in her legs started to wither away before Cyrus broke it. He stepped in between Celene and the female jackal as he looked up at her with a similar gaze of his own. His crimson eyes didn't pierce through her but instead locked onto her, every little movement he was keenly aware of. He wasn't looking at her as a person or as an item like she was doing to Celene, his gaze marked her as prey.

"We realized we'll be off schedule if we stay the night. Just tell us where our carriage is and we'll be out of your fur." He smirked as a little spark trailed off of his eyes.

A growl escaped the woman's lips as her gaze shifted to Cyrus. She stepped up to him and glared down at him. "Oh we insist, give you a good ole Rastis send off."

Cyrus matched her gaze, sparks continued to burst off of his body in increasing intensity as sand seemed to swirl around the canine's feet before another voice rang out from down the hall.

"Dearest sister, you're scaring our guests." The sound of chains clinking against each other started to resound out through the hall.

As Cyrus peeked behind the woman that blocked the door to the room another Jackal appeared. His clothes not lined with jewels like hers but instead chains ran from the back of his shoulders to his wrists, out of all the jackals they had seen he was the most clothed. He resembled what one would see of a human aristocrat his chest adorned with a blaze that those chains had been attached to, dress pants covered his legs and a pair of glasses covered his eyes. He walked up beside the woman and put an arm around her.

"Butt out of this Tyet, this pipsqueak is getting on my nerves." The woman growled as she smacked her brother's arm off of her.

Tyet dusted his hand off after his sister smacked it a soft chuckle escaped his lips as he pushed his glasses up on his face. "Oh leave them be Metia. They'll be at the dinner..... if they know what's good for them." A sinister glare and grin crossed his face as he began to walk past the small altercation and down the hall, the sound of chains and a soft laughter growing softer as he walked away.

With a small scoff Metia relented, her shoulder crashed against Cyrus's chest as she turned to stomp away, the ground seemingly shook a bit with every step as she stormed off. As the two Jackals left the strength in Celene's legs vanished and she collapsed to the ground. She panted heavily as she sat on her knees with her legs sprawled out. Cyrus quickly crouched down in front of her, his eyes scanned her up and down.

"Hey, hey you okay. Just take deep breathes." He'd suggest as he took both of her hands in his.

Celene's mind was racing, more memories than she could handle came flooding into her mind, but as Cyrus's voice stumbled it's way into her head. It pierced through the stream of memories that overwhelmed her mind. She had been spiraling into a dark void until that concerned voice and soft hold brought her back. Her breathing began to settle, a few deep breathes cleared her mind as she looked up at Cyrus to meet his gaze.

"Yeah... I'm fine now." She took his hand and would rise back up to her feet. "I think we need to go to this dinner, they probably already have us locked in here." She'd comment

"You sure, they're probably not to tough." Cyrus smirked a bit and let a bit of lightning snake down his arm."I wouldn't be too sure about that, those two felt pretty strong and I'm sensing a lot of mana surrounding this place." Sarah chimed in as she rubbed her temples.

Cyrus chuckled and shrugged. "Well, looks like we're going to dinner."
