Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 Reading it Once More

Cheng Zhu could already be sure that, damn it, he had been reborn.

He really couldn't understand it; so many people wished to be reborn, but he didn't, so why was he chosen?

He had over six million in that card and didn't even have time to spend it!

If it had been right when he graduated from high school, he probably wouldn't have dealt with Class Monitor Li, who liked to steal girlfriends, in the way he did now.

But the Cheng Zhu of now came from many years in the future.

By then, he had already walked through a field of flowers without a leaf sticking to him, and he naturally despised guys like Li Rui, the so-called "nice guy" in love.

Why had the joke "nice guys are behind bootlickers" become trendy again recently?

It wasn't because someone on Douyin commented on videos of girls who almost crossed the line: "Don't keep going like that, you deserve to be loved".

And the reply was: "Nice guys are behind bootlickers".

Idiots like Li Rui, who fuss over and are extremely attentive and considerate toward other people's girlfriends, only deserve the most legendary treatment: letting you listen from the door or using the condoms you bought, so that at least you feel you participated.

Cheng Zhu was in an excellent mood; he even felt he wasn't insulting Li Rui, but rather saw himself as a Buddha giving him a life lesson.

Besides, he really didn't like Li Rui.

Just after graduating from university, he was the one doing the best; thanks to his family connections, he got a stable job and spoke with the air of a minor official.

Back then, Cheng Zhu hadn't taken off yet; he was still finding his way and often received sarcastic comments from him.

Deep down, it was all because Li Rui couldn't stand that his childhood goddess was with Cheng Zhu.

However, in later alumni reunions, Li Rui no longer attended, or rather, could not attend.

Due to certain circumstances, he ended up in prison.

At this moment, Li Rui's face was completely red, trembling with rage.

But, curiously, looking at Cheng Zhu, he felt a bit intimidated.

Cheng Zhu thought maybe it was because he had been successful at a young age and was used to being in a position of power; also, his presence was completely different from that of a fresh high school graduate. He treated the other person like a child.

But although he didn't know why, in Li Rui's eyes, Cheng Zhu really looked like someone from society, a full-fledged man.

Cheng Zhu had a naturally raised eyebrow arch, and his angular face gave him a touch of rebellious attractiveness.

Besides, his tall height made people easily misinterpret him, thinking he was a school bully.

Since high school, if there was a conflict between two groups of boys, if Cheng Zhu aligned with one, even if he was just there to support, when the fight started, his opponents saw him as the leader to attack.

He never had the chance to enjoy being a leader, but he did receive the beatings a leader usually received.

And you have to admit that this kind of boy was quite popular in school; they didn't lack girls interested in them.

At that moment, Li Xinyue thought Li Rui didn't compare at all to Cheng Zhu.

But she remained firm in her original stance, and with an angry expression, she said:

"Then, so be it, I will never worry about you again!"

Having said this, she left angrily, causing Li Rui and Chen Rongrong to follow her immediately.

Wang Anquan, who was beside Cheng Zhu, asked him:

"Are you really not going to go after her, Cheng Zhu?"

"Why go after her? The next one will be more obedient." Cheng Zhu didn't even consider it.

It is true that first love is always unforgettable.

But Li Xinyue was the type of girl who taught Cheng Zhu a life lesson.

Even though it was she who chased Cheng Zhu, she was always clingy, acting as if she was deeply in love, and had told him several times that even if they were in different universities, he must not cheat on her.

But in reality?

There are girls like that; their emotions are very passionate, and when they are on top they don't care about anything, but they don't focus on just one person.

One month after starting university, Cheng Zhu experienced the famous "silent treatment".

Later, after they broke up, he found out that Li Xinyue had fallen in love with a senior student at the welcome party.

During the "silent treatment", Cheng Zhu tried several times to win her back; even after the breakup, he put all his effort into it.

In the end, he only received a: "Don't send me more messages, or call me, please leave me alone".

At that moment, Cheng Zhu was stunned, remembering how during summer vacation she had told him, while curling up in his hug, with a mix of caution and warmth:

"When we are in university, you won't leave me, right?"

Later on, Cheng Zhu found out that Li Xinyue wasn't doing very well.

The reason was simple, her college boyfriend was a super-rich second generation.

Some locks opened with golden keys think they are made of gold just because they have a bit of golden dust on them.

That senior student knew he wouldn't marry his college girlfriends, so he only dated pretty girls; the rest didn't matter.

But when it came to marriage, he suddenly wanted someone of his same social level.

In the end, Li Xinyue was left hanging, neither up nor down.

Many years later, at a small high school alumni reunion, Cheng Zhu, already successful in his career and still single, didn't know that Li Xinyue would attend.

At the end of the dinner, Li Xinyue asked him to take her home.

Dressed in a small suit and black stockings, she got into the car and remained "asleep".

Cheng Zhu quickly called Yiyi, the star hostess of his company, to "take care" of Li Xinyue.

Which resulted in her leaving in shame.

"Actually, I was too naive before, my standards were low and I didn't know how to identify the opportunists," Cheng Zhu thought to himself.

"Li Xinyue always had people like Li Rui around her; perhaps she didn't do it intentionally, but she definitely had her own 'fish pond'."

"This already gives some clues."

"And girls like her, when they chase someone they are passionate, but once in the relationship, they are extremely complicated. According to my later experience, some of them are very prone to changing their hearts."

Wang Anquan, who was looking at his best friend, felt there was something different about him, but he couldn't identify what.

But, for someone like him, a student, Cheng Zhu seemed really cool at that moment, as if he were acting.

Cheng Zhu looked at Wang Anquan, who had dark skin and some acne, gave him a few pats on the shoulder, and said to him seriously:

"If I remember correctly, you like Li Xinyue's friend, Chen Rongrong, right?"

Chen Rongrong wasn't as pretty as Li Xinyue, but she knew how to dress up; she had a slightly high-pitched voice and was good at getting along with boys.

Wang Anquan listened to Cheng Zhu and lowered his head slightly.

"Cheng Zhu, you see I'm not good at studying, my family is ordinary, Rongrong wouldn't pay attention to someone like me."

"I'm glad you have that awareness." Cheng Zhu nodded his head, acknowledging it.

"Cheng Zhu, can't you encourage me?" Wang Anquan was left speechless.

Cheng Zhu looked at him seriously.

"Actually, you can be bad at studying, not make money, even not be handsome."

"You can be unexceptional, have no ambition, even not be smart."

Wang Anquan listened, and felt that there should be comforting words behind it.

Cheng Zhu continued: "But, not me!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Wang Anquan was stunned for a moment, then got so angry that he wanted to fight him.

And it has to be said, Wang Anquan was quite strong, like a bull, with great strength, so Cheng Zhu ran away.

He ran while laughing.

What he had just said was really what he felt: you can be ordinary, but I can't, because in the end, I have to carry you to fly.

As long as I have a ration of food, you will have a plate to wash; that is my promise as a friend.

In the middle of the chase, they both got on the bus to go back home.

On the bus, Wang Anquan couldn't help but ask again:

"Cheng Zhu, are you really going to end it like this and not reconcile with Li Xinyue?"

Li Xinyue was the type of girl who always mentioned breaking up; she mentioned it all the time, but once she was convinced, she accepted reconciling.

"Of course, Anquan, I'm telling you, you must never be a 'bootlicker', because some people have hearts like clay in the sun; the more you try to mold them with flattery, the harder they become."

Cheng Zhu advised him seriously.

It was 2014, and the term "bootlicker" wasn't very common, but Wang Anquan could understand the meaning a little.

He responded.

"But in the end, don't they soften?"

This made Cheng Zhu think that his friend had a dangerous mentality; not only did he want to be a "bootlicker", but he also planned to persist to the end, which would only bring him suffering.

Seeing Cheng Zhu's frown, Wang Anquan changed the subject:

"Cheng Zhu, Li Xinyue has a bit of a princess attitude, but they have broken up and gotten back together so many times, won't it be different this time?"

Cheng Zhu looked out the window and said lightly:

"Reading a book again gives you new perspectives, but not a new ending."
