Chapter 2 - The Day After

At last, he managed to organize his emotions about having reincarnated and now living in the world of Naruto.

"I need to eat something to feel better… otherwise this dizziness won't go away."

As he stepped out of his bedroom, he immediately noticed another room beside it, and straight ahead, the living room connected to the kitchen.

The walls were old, already beginning to show holes and splintered wood. The worn floor was covered by a wrinkled carpet, its color faded by time and use. Everything carried the quiet sense of slow neglect.

As he walked in search of something to eat, he began to analyze the memories belonging to the new body he now inhabited.

His parents were dead.

His father, Hayate, had been an elite chūnin—a chūnin with greater capability than average, usually possessing one or two additional techniques and a bit more experience. Nothing remarkable. A common, competent shinobi whose natural affinity was Wind Release. Just someone good enough to survive mission after mission… until the day that stopped being enough.

His mother, Aiko, had trained as a kunoichi before retiring early. In the end, she became simply a woman who kept the house warm, smiled easily, and hid her fear every time her husband left the village.

There were no final words.

No dramatic farewell.

Only an official report.

They had left the house to him.

Some savings—modest, but enough to keep him alive for now.

And Konoha had allowed him to remain alone.

The village's orphan system was, at best, inefficient. Overburdened. Indifferent. As long as a child had a roof over their head and didn't cause trouble, the case was filed away as resolved.

Thus, a decision was made on the day his parents died.

Ren Kurosawa would be responsible for himself.

No guardian.

No clan support.

No ANBU watching from the shadows.

Only a small monthly stipend—the bare minimum. Enough to survive… and maybe buy something extra if he saved carefully.

As he moved from the living room to the kitchen, his eyes caught a mirror fixed to the wall. He saw himself.

Far too young.

Four years old.

Deep black hair with a faint blue tint, reaching the nape of his neck. A body noticeably small and thin for his age.

"…So this is me," he murmured.

As if responding to the thought, something changed at the edge of his vision.

An interface.

Bluish, translucent panels unfolded before his eyes, floating in the air like pages torn straight from a manga.

Power without cost never existed—neither in this world nor in the previous one.

He dismissed the windows with a simple thought and released a slow, controlled breath.

As he ate, he analyzed.

Everything had changed.

He was alone in one of the most dangerous worlds imaginable—armed only with memories from another life, the body of a child, and a system that promised growth… but offered no mercy.

He turned toward the window, watching the village move forward without even noticing his existence.

"One day at a time," he said calmly.

Outside, Konoha continued to breathe.

And so did he.
