The council hall fell silent the moment Maria stepped inside.
It wasn't the kind of silence born from fear alone it was recognition. Power clung to her now, not loud or reckless, but steady, undeniable. The Moon's mark rested beneath her skin like a second heartbeat, calm but unyielding.
Alphas from distant territories lined the stone chamber, some seated, some standing, all watching her as if she were a question they had no answer to.
Maria let them watch.
She moved to the center of the hall and stopped. Kael remained a step behind her not as a shield, not as a commander, but as a presence. A choice.
"You summoned us," the Alpha of the Western Cliffs said at last. "Yet you stand without guards."
Maria lifted her gaze. "If I needed guards from those seated here, this meeting would already be pointless."
A murmur rippled through the hall.
The Alpha of Bloodstone Ridge leaned back in his chair, eyes sharp. "Bold words for someone newly crowned by circumstance."
Maria turned to him slowly.
"The Ashen King ruled by fear," she said evenly. "By corruption. By silence. I ended him without any of those tools." Her voice hardened. "So don't mistake calm for weakness."
The Moonlight in the chamber flared briefly, casting silver across the walls.
Several Alphas stiffened.
Kael felt it then the shift. The bond between him and Maria thrummed, not possessive, not demanding, but vast. Whatever the Moon had done to her, it had not made her smaller.
It had made her more.
"You all came here for different reasons," Maria continued. "Some to pledge loyalty.
Some to measure my strength. Some" her eyes flicked back to Bloodstone "to find cracks."
She took a breath. "So hear this clearly. I am not here to conquer your packs. I am here to stop the cycle that keeps creating monsters like the Ashen King."
The word monsters echoed.
An older Alpha rose slowly. "And if we refuse?"
Maria met his gaze without blinking. "Then you walk away tonight unharmed. But if you bring war to my borders…" Her voice dropped, quiet and deadly. "The Moon will witness what follows."
Silence again.
This time, it was heavier.
One by one, several Alphas stood, not kneeling, not bowing but lowering their heads in acknowledgment.
Not submission but in acceptance.
The Alpha of Bloodstone remained seated, smiling thinly. "You speak as if the Moon herself chose your name."
Maria didn't smile back.
"She did," she said. "And she remembers who stands against her."
Outside, a low howl rolled through the valley not a challenge.A warning.
And far beyond the borders, something old and patient stirred, drawn not by darkness
But by the rise of a Luna who would not bend.
