Chapter 10 - 10: Blank

"Who's there?! Come out whoever you are!"

The man yelled at the top of his lungs, sending vibrations through the air and piercing Rukiyo's sensitive ears.

PING!

At the same time of the ear-piercing yelling, the systematic ping resonated in her head.

She squeezed her eyes shut and she pressed her palms over her ears to try to soothe the pain the sounds had caused.

But she could only freeze when she didn't feel normal human ears.

It was a pointy one— slightly similar to the elf's ears she encountered earlier and the thought of it made her breath hitch, her heartbeat thumping loudly in her ears.

That's weird.. She thought, bringing her hands away from the side of her head before coping a feel to trace the outline of her ears.

Is this.. How I described what a dragon would look like in my book? She wondered, her body freezing in astonishment at her body proportion because now, she wants to find a mirror and see how she looks.

"Get out where you're hiding from!" The person yelled again, snapping Rukiyo out of her shock.

She swallowed and steeled her nerves. She peaked out of the corner and swore that because the cave is dark, the injured man can't see her. Especially if he's just a human.

"What's wrong, brother?" The second and tall man questioned, popping out from the mouth of the cave with a few leaves housed in his shirt.

The green leaves are herbals, that much Rukiyo could tell, but she's not sure whether the leaves are good for the open injuries.. Who is she to worry about him though? The man seemed like he knew what he's doing.

"Blank!" The injured guy exclaimed, perking up in his spot. "I heard someone! Take a look over there!"

How idiotic of him. Rukiyo thought, eyebrows furrowing as she quietly scrambled back farther into the dark, not wanting to risk being seen by staying close to the corner.

"Of course, b-brother." Blank mumbled, but Rukiyo heard him loud and clear.

She inhaled sharply and froze in her spot on the farthest corner of the cave, hidden in plain sight due to the darkness.

She knows for sure that she'll be able to take down these people, but she's also sure that if she managed to take them down— if they were known people in a town somewhere and if they suddenly went missing, then they would surely be tagged as missing.

If they are considered missing, then there will be a search party or something. Rukiyo thought, keeping her eyes glued on the corner as the shadow of Blank closed in.

If I want to live peacefully.. I have to lessen any casualties and lay low. She added to her previous thoughts, grumbling in her mind.

Still.. Despite all that.. Despite the fact that she may have said that she has to lay low.. What is the use of it now? What is the use of it when she already messed up by cussing out the system when she got annoyed at it earlier?

What a way to start my lay low plan. Rukiyo huffed, before she went completely still when the person named Blank peaked around the corner.

He stared, eyes hidden behind thick, untamed blonde bangs.

Rukiyo held her breath and stared back at him, her heart pounding loudly against her ears as she hoped for the best outcome of the situation.

Blank moved, causing Rukiyo to flinch.

He tilted his head and brushed his bangs to the side, revealing a beautiful pair of golden irises that seemed to glow in the dark.

She was mesmerized for a moment, then their eyes met.

Instantly, Rukiyo felt her heart sink into her stomach, her eyes widening in horror when she realized what had just happened.

Did he—?

"T-There's no one here, b-brother.." Blank muttered, but his eyes were glued on Rukiyo's frozen body.

He saw me.. Rukiyo thought, blinking owlishly as her tensed muscles slowly relaxed.

He saw me, but he didn't say it to his brother..? She added to the previous train of thoughts before her mind went blank.

Blank straightened himself in the corner and that's when Rukiyo found out just how tall the man actually was now that he's up close— he's around six feet tall, or maybe taller than that.

The cave's ceiling was pretty high, but the man could reach it if he was to raise his hand.

"Are you sure?" The injured man asked, making Blank turn his head away from Rukiyo and look at his so-called brother.

"I'm s-sure.." Blank answered, pulling his hand away from his bangs and letting his hair fall back into his eyes, but even if his eyes were already covered, Rukiyo could feel his piercing gaze.

I'm pretty sure that he saw me. Rukiyo thought, her hands clenching into fists.

A part of her felt thankful that Blank lied to his friend, or brother, and didn't tell him that she's there, but a part of her felt incredibly skeptical because now, she has to keep an eye out on him.

She still doesn't know how strong Rukiyo is— magically or physically wise, but she knows that she's certainly strong.

Ryukiyo is a dragon. A goddess. An almighty being that is worshipped by many.

A dragon is a million times stronger than a human and one flick of a finger might ruin their bloodline, so she's trying to be as careful as she could—

I already fucked up though. Rukiyo thought, curling against herself and tucking her knees under her chin, her eyes glued on Blank's shadow that gradually became farther and farther and farther, until it was out of sight.

She let out a sigh through her nose, eyes fluttering shut.

How can she stay still inside the cave when there are two strangers at the entrance? She was supposed to look around tonight, but she had to throw that down to the garbage can.

Oh, man.. This sucks.
