Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Steven's Expectations

Knowing which move it should use, Tyrunt didn't hesitate. Its small claws tapped lightly on the grass, and its body began to twist to a mysterious rhythm.

Its head swayed from side to side, and the two small orange horns on its forehead shimmered. The frequency of its limbs hitting the ground grew faster, and its short tail swung left and right like a Metronome.

As the dance progressed, it finished after a short while. It stopped abruptly, opened its mouth, and let out a clear Roar, making the surrounding leaves rustle.

A faint red light enveloped its body, proof that its Attack and Speed stats were rising.

Although the skill's movement was still a bit slow, as its proficiency gradually increases in the future, it will not only be able to use it faster but also stack multiple layers of Dragon Dance.

"Holy crap! It's Dragon Dance!"

"This skill is an excellent support move for the Dragon-type! It's already learned it at such a young age?!"

"A certain Dragon-type Pokémon is going to shed silent tears after finding out about this."

"Person above, I know who you're talking about. I'm going to take a screenshot and post it on Champion Cynthia's social forum."

"..."

Lionel waited for the bullet chat to calm down a bit before pointing at the inflatable fish tank on the rock: "Besides Tyrunt, I have another piece of news for everyone. In one month, Feebas will participate in the Rustboro City Pokémon Contest."

When the camera turned to Feebas, the little fellow was swimming quietly in the water. Hearing the words 'Pokémon Contest,' it specifically flicked its tail at the camera as if saying hello.

"!!! Pokémon Contest? Feebas is going to participate?"

"No way, streamer. The Pokémon Contest is about appearance and the flashiness of moves... Feebas, it..."

"Don't say that, person in front! Feebas is very cute! And the streamer must have a way!"

"I'll bet a Water Stone that the streamer is going for a gap moe! Just like with Tyrunt!"

"Looking forward to it! I'll definitely be watching the stream then! I want to see Feebas stun the whole crowd!"

Lionel nodded with a smile: "I'll be taking Feebas for special training these days. Let's keep a bit of mystery for now. When the competition starts, I definitely won't let everyone down."

While Lionel was streaming, Steven, at the Devon Corporation headquarters, followed Lionel using an alt account. He watched Lionel's stream while processing documents.

When he saw Lionel's Tyrunt use Charm, a smile of doting and helplessness appeared on his face.

And when Tyrunt used Dragon Dance, he immediately took a screen recording with his phone, opened his contact list, and sent the clip to Lance, who had blackmailed him back then.

Steven: "Elite Lance, how is your Aerodactyl training going? I remember it took you two days to make Aerodactyl behave after you caught it. As expected of the Kanto Dragon-type Elite."

As Steven sent this message to Lance, a teasing expression appeared on his face.

Elite Lance: "Of course, any Dragon-type Pokémon will behave in my hands. Why do you have time to message me today? Is there news about the Dragon-type Pokémon I asked you to find?"

Steven: "Please, how could it be that fast? You should go to Elite Drake for that. I don't have news so soon. I'll notify you when I do."

Lance: "I'm not going to him. If it weren't for that old guy talking nonsense, how would I have the nickname 'Dodo'? What does he know about being a Flying-type Elite? Once I've collected enough Dragon-type Pokémon, just watch how I challenge him."

Steven: "Hahaha, so your 'Dodo' title was spread by Elite Drake? Then I hope you get your wish!"

Steven: "Oh, right. Yesterday I met a trainer I quite liked and let him choose a fossil Pokémon. Once that Pokémon was resurrected, it was caught by that trainer instantly."

"It's that fossil you didn't think much of, the one with the large mouth imprint. The resurrected Pokémon is a Rock and Dragon-type. Take a look!"

With a mischievous grin, Steven sent over the video clip of Lionel's Tyrunt using Dragon Dance, along with the data for Tyrantrum from the Devon Pokémon database.

Lance: "...Tyrunt... Tyrantrum... Dragon Dance... Ancient King of the Land!! Where did you dig up this fossil? Are there any more? I want this Pokémon. I can trade a Dratini egg for it."

Steven: "There are no more. You were the one who wanted the Mysterious Amber. I gave you the choice of these two newly excavated fossils as well, but you didn't want them yourself. I didn't force you!"

"However, the other feather fossil is still in my collection room. Interested in a trade? Maybe it's another Dragon-type Pokémon!"

Lance: "I want it. Resurrect it now and transfer it to me. When my Dragonair lays an egg, I'll send it to you."

Steven: "No, no, no, I'm not willing to wait. You should know that many people have their eyes on this fossil in my hands now."

"A Dragon-type Pokémon... the meaning of this feather imprint might be a Flying-type Dragon Overlord comparable to Aerodactyl. Maybe I should trade with Elite Drake instead. I'm also quite interested in Bagon!"

Lance: "Wait! I'm flying back to the Dragon's Den right now to apply for a Dratini egg from the family and send it to you. You're not allowed to give it to Elite Drake. I'm going back immediately, keep it for me!"

Steven: "Then you'd better hurry. I'm not sure how long this fossil can stay in my hands!"

Lance: "Within three days, I will definitely send the Dratini egg to you. You must keep it for me!"

After ending the chat with Lance, Steven contacted a good friend pinned at the top of his contacts.

Steven: "Wallace, what are you doing? Have you and Winona kept in touch over the years? Look who I ran into while mining. Doesn't this person look familiar?"

"JPG"

Wallace: "!!! A shiny Feebas? Is this for real? Steven, don't tell me you're using a fake picture to trick me again!"

Steven: "I'm really hurt that you'd say that. Why would I lie to you? This trainer is even streaming; you can go see for yourself."

Steven: "Aggron and I were mining in the Granite Cave of Dewford Town when someone suddenly burst in. At first glance, I even mistook him for you."

"I still remember the first time we met at the Sootopolis Gym when we were kids. You were also giggling while holding a Feebas. I still remember that look."

Wallace: "It's actually real this time; you didn't lie to me. And it was caught by sea fishing? Have you seen how he's training this Feebas?"

Steven: "A bit better than you were back then. Besides Water-type moves, his Feebas has also learned Icy Wind."

"How about it? Interested in coming to take a look? He's also taking Feebas to a Pokémon Contest in Rustboro City."

Wallace: "Really!! Then I'll try to arrange my schedule to see if I can make it. I want to see if it's really as excellent as you say!"

Steven: "Why do you need to arrange a schedule? Just come over. You're the one who started the Pokémon Contests. Just say you want to see how the new generation of Coordinators is doing."

"Come be a judge and just throw everything to President Goodshow. Anyway, the old man is still going strong; give him more things to do."

Wallace: "It's easy for you to say now that you've stepped down as Champion, but how can I just leave everything?"

Steven: "Hahaha, doesn't having the title of Champion make it easier to promote your Pokémon Contests? Look, isn't your dream already realized now?"

"Alright, stop making excuses. Remember to come quickly. I'll be waiting for you in Rustboro City. We haven't seen each other in a long time..."

Wallace: "Okay, wait for me. I'll arrange everything as soon as possible and come over..."

Looking at Wallace's reply, a childlike, happy smile appeared on Steven's face.
