Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Determination

Chapter 4

Shin wakes up after everything that has happened.

Morning light fills the room.

He gets out of bed and goes downstairs to the Counter

Shin asks, "What's for breakfast?"

This time, a different employee answers him. She looks at him curiously and asks,

"Are you Shin?"

"Yes," he replies. "Why?"

She smiles. "Isabella has been talking about you nonstop."

Shin blinks. "Where is she, anyway?"

"She went shopping in another city with a few guards from this town," the girl explains. "This inn is the most popular one here, so she has to restock supplies every week."

"I see. Thanks for explaining," Shin says. "What's your name?"

"My name is Emilia," she answers proudly. "I'm fifteen years old."

Then she asks, "So, what would you like for breakfast?"

"Oh—right. I almost forgot," Shin says. "What do you have?"

"We have milk with sweet bread."

"I'll take that."

When the food is ready, Shin eats quickly.

"That will be thirty bronze coins," Emilia says.

Shin pays, finishes his meal, and stands up. He still wants to go to the guild today.

He returns to his room, gathers his belongings, and leaves the inn.

In the city center, he sees three guild buildings.

After a brief moment of thought, he chooses the Green Leaf Guild and steps inside.

Shin walks straight to the counter, where a beautiful young woman stands.

She smiles politely. "Welcome. What can I help you with?"

"I want to become an adventurer," Shin answers.

"Then please place your hand on this stone."

Shin does as instructed.

The stone glows faintly.

"F-Rank," the woman says. "All right. This will be your adventurer's license."

Shin takes it gratefully.

"Thank you."

She hesitates, then warns him, "F-Rank adventurers don't earn much money."

Shin shakes his head. "I'm not doing this for money. I want to become stronger."

A man standing behind him laughs. "That's the perfect mindset."

Shin turns slightly, embarrassed. "Thanks."

He leaves the guild with a clear goal in mind.

His first objective: clear a dungeon.

After some walking, he finds an entrance marked clearly with the word Dungeon.

Without hesitation, Shin steps inside.

In the distance, he sees goblins—normal ones this time.

He prepares himself, pulls two daggers from his bag, and charges forward.

The fight ends in seconds.

Shin continues deeper, defeating skeletons, goblins, undead, and more.

Eventually, he reaches the 20th floor, the end of the easy zone.

As he approaches the door to the 21st floor, glowing text appears before him:

Boss Room

Shin remembers hearing about this place before.

Bosses are said to be at least fifty times stronger than normal monsters.

Still, he steps forward.

Behind the door stands a Giant Goblin, one of the strongest goblin species.

Shin stays calm and attacks with his daggers.

He slices off one of the goblin's arms—

—but in the next moment, the giant goblin begins to glow red.

Shin's eyes widen.

"It powered up… seventy times stronger?"

He clenches his teeth and thinks fast.

Then he remembers his ability.

Even though he swore never to use it again, he activates it.

Null Magic.

One of the strongest magic forms—capable of amplifying the user's power.

Shin attacks again, fully aware of the risks.

He leaps up and slashes at the goblin's head, cutting off its horns.

The goblin screams in agony—the horns are extremely sensitive.

The giant retaliates, swinging its massive spiked club.

Shin is struck and sent flying.

He crashes into the wall and spits blood—his chest took the hit.

Shin knows he can't hold back anymore.

He summons the Sun Sword and keeps Null Magic active.

The goblin attacks again, but Shin dodges at the last second.

In that opening, he slices off both of the goblin's arms.

Shin jumps into the air.

The Sun Sword speaks.

"Should I heat up?"

Shin doesn't hesitate. "Yes."

The sword glows brighter, reaching the temperature of a miniature sun around five hundred degrees.

While still in the air, Shin throws the sword straight into the goblin's chest.

The blade pierces deep inside.

The heat boils the creature from within.

The giant goblin explodes.

Shin exhales in relief.

Deciding that this is enough for today, he leaves the dungeon and returns to the surface.

He heads back to the guild carrying the massive skull of the goblin.

As he enters, everyone freezes.

"That's impossible…"

"An F-Rank adventurer?"

"He should be weak!"

Ignoring the murmurs, Shin walks straight to the counter.

Lylia is still there.

He places the skull down. "How much is this worth?"

She stares at it, stunned.

"T-This… at least fifty gold coins. Maybe even more the condition is excellent."

The room erupts in envy.

Shin simply takes the money and leaves.

Back at the inn, Isabella has returned.

She looks at him and asks, "Where have you been?"

"In a dungeon," Shin answers.

Her eyes widen. "Wait—did you become an adventurer?"

"Yes."

She smiles brightly. "That's amazing! Let me make you something to eat."

Shin shakes his head. "Thanks, but I'm exhausted."

He goes to his room, lies down, and falls asleep tired, In relieve.

Will Shin continue forward?

Or will he stop here?
