Castle of Valefor Family
Artoria was looking at the library door for a few minutes and sighed.
" It is time to get to work. I need to cleanse the rats and improve the land for her before she gets back , " she said to herself and walked in the direction of the office to read through the documents about immediate affairs that needed attention. While she was walking, she noticed a few of the maids were too attentive for their own good. She noted them in her mind to get rid of them from the castle, which was from now on only for those in contract with Luminarie or her Peerage. When she got inside the room that belonged to Luminarie's father, she looked around and noticed portraits of her King and her mother. When she saw the older woman, she recognized it immediately.
" We really look alike. I need to talk with her aunt or uncle, it seems. In that way, it would be best for me to make myself known to everyone , and her family would know that she is okay and safe while I take over the administration , " she mused to herself while looking out of the window. After some thought, she summoned one of the maids and asked her for a summary of the treasury to look at so she had a bigger picture of the situation the land was in. When the girl walked to bring it to her, she read through the letter that came from Sirzechs. In it was a list of the Families that were elevated after the war. Among them was Valefor Family, which was elevated to Archduke from Duke. While looking at this, she sighed, knowing what they wanted to do.
'She will not let go of her vengeance with this. The only thing she would take for it would be blood, and they wouldn't pay this price. So I need to plan for a future war in advance, but first, I need to take out the rats in these lands , ' she thought and went towards the desk. She sat there and started to write what should be done.
'I can't do much outside her sphere of influence, so I need to ask her family to come here because I need to stay here. When I am outside, I have the power of only Low-Level Satan-class Devil. Here, when I defend her lands, I can easily take on anyone. The only advantage I have outside is that I have holy weapons that I can use against them, so it elevates my battle power to about High-Level Satan-class. I should be able to fight that Lucifuge girl. With equipment, I would defeat her, but I don't know if I could kill her since Luminarie wants to do it herself,' she thought with a smile. 'Well, we will see how it goes after some time , won 't we?'
A few hours later
" Good evening, Lady Phoenix. It is my pleasure to meet a family member of my Lady , " said Artoria while bowing her head a little in greeting towards a blonde woman who was across from her on the sofa.
" Oh, it is my pleasure to see that Lumi has someone to take care of her, and from what I see, that someone looks just like her mother, so she will feel less painful, at least for some time , " said Alicia to Artoria. " Please call me Alicia, dear. You are now in our family, and she needs this, so I don't want to be someone who is ungrateful to you, who is her anchor, it seems."
When she heard those words, Artoria smiled a little and nodded her head.
" How should I call you, sweetheart?" asked Alicia to get to know the woman across from her better.
" My name is Artoria Pendragon, and yes, I am from that Pendragon family , " said Artoria but didn't mention that she was the King of the Knights because she wasn't the one from here, at least from what she knew.
" Oh my. What a fine lady she found in this low timeframe , " said Alicia with a glint in her eyes. " Can I ask how strong you are so I can assure my husband at home? He is really worried about his niece, and I would like to give him some peace."
" It is really not a problem , " said Artoria with an understanding smile on her face. " While I am in power only as a Low-Level Satan-class Devil, with my equipment, I can elevate myself to Peak Mid-Level Satan-class Devil," she said while hiding that she could fight High-Level Satan-class Devil outside to have a trump card if someone would hear it when she told it to her husband. " But if you could, please don't tell that outside. Let them believe that I am Peak Ultimate class Devil who can fight Low-Level Satan-class Devil to a standstill. We can, in that case, be better prepared for something if they would like to attack Luminarie," said Artoria.
" Yes, that is probably for the best, but let's tone it down more like High Ultimate class fighting Peak Ultimate class , " said Alicia with an evil smile on her face. " When they send two Peak Ultimates or Low-Level Satan, kill them with a very big problem if there are witnesses , so it would look like luck."
„Hehe, it seems like not only my lady can be mischievous," said Artoria while giggling.
„I can't let her have all the fun," said Alicia with a smile. „I have a question besides that. I heard, on my way here , that Lumi is in the library again, but this time she wants to learn? Do you know when she will come out?"
„She didn't give me an answer about how much time she would be there. She just said that she would learn as much as she can and will come out when she is ready , " Artoria told Alicia, shaking her head.
„That's a shame. I would like to see my niece too, but it seems that will have to wait."
„Can I ask you some questions?" asked Artoria.
„Of course. What do you want to know?"
„My lady told me that I look like her mother, so I wanted to know what I could about her," said Artoria to Alicia with hope in her eyes. When Alicia heard this, she looked again into the green eyes of the woman sitting just two meters across from her.
'Indeed, she looks just like her. Also, she is a descendant of the hero, so she is perfect for Lumi. That girl is in good hands now,' she thought and smiled.
„Okay, I will tell you what I know about my sister-in-law , " she said with a smile towards Artoria, and they spent about two hours talking about the parents of Luminarie. When Artoria heard everything, she had a sad smile.
„They seem like great people. It is really a shame that I didn't meet them before. To love their daughter so much, even when they knew what would happen," Artoria said. „Ehh, I have to hug her more when she comes out of that library , " she said with new resolve. Alicia, who saw that, smiled.
„I need to go back to Phoenix Clan lands. It isn't the best time for those things, but maybe later I will come with my husband after a few years when we are free from the restoration after the war , " said Alicia, and after saying her goodbyes, she left the castle. Artoria looked for a few seconds after her as she left.
„Okay, the report about the treasury should be ready now. Let's see how dire it is. Probably I will need to sell one or two tears," she mused under her breath while walking toward the office. When she was inside, she sat in the chair behind the desk and looked out the window.
„I am curious what the world you are in looks like, Luminarie," she whispered and closed her eyes. At that moment , she heard knocking.
„Come in!" she said, still with closed eyes. She heard the door open and looked in the direction of the sound. There stood the maid she sent to the vault to check it and write it down to have a bigger picture.
„So, how is it ?" she asked.
„Lady Artoria, the vault wasn't sacked, so there is no harm inside, so we can start repairs when we have materials . From the look of it, there is about 100 tons of gold and 3 . 5 tons of jewels. Besides that, there are quite a few weapons and sets of armor inside. It could pay for rebuilding the whole city about a hundred times, and there would still be some left. But this is not important . We should call Lady Luminarie because we found something that is really important."
„What is it that you want me to disturb her for, in gathering knowledge?" asked Artoria, looking at the maid with a cold stare.
„I know that it is impudent, but this shouldn't wait. It is a marriage contract for Lady Luminarie," said the maid with a scared look.
„Marriage contract?" asked Artoria, stunned . „With who?"
„That is a problem , " said the maid while looking at the document in her hand. „It is..."
