Chapter 2 - Wrong Kind of Danger

SWEATING. What if it's the lady from the neighbour?

It's the middle of the night, so everybody was in deep sleep, I guess. Should I ignore it?

While he was thinking about different possibilities, the knocking increased, which made him anxious.

Luken slowly got down the stairs and reached the floor.

He looked at the door right in front of him.

He slowly approached the door.To his curiosity, the knocking stopped.

Luken was surprised, but he got closer to the door and, through the peephole, tried to look if anyone was there.

But the only thing he saw was darkness.

It was like someone intentionally hid the hole.

Luken got chills as something hit his legs.

With fear, he looked down.

It was a piece of paper.

His fear turned into curiosity. He picked up the paper.

As he was picking up the paper, there was one last knock on the door.

Luken moved one step back as he heard the knock.

But to his curiosity, even though it was a stupid move, he opened the door.

To his surprise, there was no one.

What the hell is going on here…

"I thought this world was normal until I saw the lady try to remove something that I can't describe — that may be a soul."

As he was thinking about that, he forgot about the paper that he picked up.

He went inside the house and locked the door, even double-checked it.

He got into his bed and lay down.

He opened the piece of paper.

The thing written on that paper made him more curious instead of afraid.

It was written:

I KNOW YOU ARE THERE.

BE SAFE.

I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT YOU ARE ATTRACTING THE WRONG KIND OF DANGER.

After reading that, he stared at his ceiling.

I think I like to know many answers.

I think that's because I don't know the danger about the truth.

Maybe the truth holds weight…

Maybe there will be a day when I get an answer to my question…

He kept the note aside on the table and went to sleep.

Maybe it was going to be a rough sleep.

NEXT DAY MORNING...

An old voice echoed,

"Hey dear, breakfast is ready."

"I will be there, Grandma."

As Kai freshened up in the morning, like he was going somewhere, he went downstairs.

At the table, there was a star-shaped cake and some soup, which smelled so good.

As Kai sat down, his grandma sat beside him.

"Where are you going, dear? You got some girl or anything?"

"No, Grandma. I'm just going to the shop, that's all."

Grandma, with a mild voice, told Kai,

"You know where I met your grandfather?"

"Oh, Grandma, you never told me about that.

Where did you meet our old man, Granny?"

"It's in Rosefield."

"Rosefield? That's a cool place to fall in love, but I never heard of any place called Rosefield."

Granny smiled and told him,

You don't know because it wasn't on this island.

Kai stopped eating for a second.

"Where was it?"

She told him,

"It's far beyond this island.

There is a place, a region, which was so beautiful and dangerous at the same time.

"There is a completely different world.

But on this island, they tell lies and conspiracies that I can't ignore.

Some may be the truth, and some are not.

"But young people should explore outside, even if it's dangerous.

Trapped on this small island — what life could that be?"

Kai spoke while eating,

"You never told me you went outside this island.

Did you travel to—"

His grandma smiled.

"I went there for a different reason.Ended up in different situations.

"It's all a beautiful story about the young…"

Kai's grandma touched his shoulder.

"You asked, and I didn't tell you because I wasn't sure to go to the outside world.

"The truth is, it's your decision.

You should know about lies and truth.

It's up to you what you want to be.

"Your decision will decide who you become…"

"Maybe, who knows, you can find your partner like I found your old man…"

"Everybody has an end.

If there is a place above called heaven, or something else, we all can meet there…"

"Come on, Granny," kai said. Why are you thinking like that?

Everyone has an end. Don't think about that."

"I love to hear your stories, Granny, but I got to go now."

He asked,

"Do you need something, Granny?"

Grandma smiled.

"Bread is enough, dear."

"Okay, Granny."

Kai waved and went to the shop.

He roamed around the shop and bought some items for home and bread for Granny.

After his purchase, he stopped at a small store.

He entered the store and looked for something fresh to drink.

He asked the shopkeeper. What's fresh here?"

The shopkeeper replied,

"Red Tasaral juice.

It's farm-grown, sir, and very refreshing for this afternoon."

"I'll get that," Kai said.

After getting the juice in a fancy fruit-shaped container, Kai paid the bill and left the shop.

Near the entrance, a lady bumped into him.

Some of the juice spilled.

"Oh, I'm sorry," the lady said."No problem as Kai replied.

Kai looked around.

There were two people.

They looked like a couple or friends.

One was a man with an S-shaped tattoo on his neck.He was carrying something wrapped in cloth.

The other was the lady who hit him.

She had short black hair.

Kai went outside and sat on a bench.

The view was covered in fields, making the afternoon feel satisfying.

Kai tasted the drink.

"Wow, it's actually good."

Meanwhile, inside the shop, the lady stared at Kai with an unusual look.

She told the man with the tattoo,"He feels strange."

"What do you mean?" the man asked.

"I can sense a bit of presence of the thing we are searching for."

"What makes you sure?

We searched half the island and couldn't find any trace."

"But this one has a small trace.Maybe he can lead us to that."

"Don't rush things.

What if he is not?"

"Then his life does not matter that much," the woman replied.

"The people living on this island are pathetic anyway."

She smiled.

"Then do your thing."

Outside, Kai drank his drink and yawned.

"This is awesome."

He returned to the shop to throw the cup away—

—and got hit by the woman again.

"Ah, sorry, sorry," she said.

Kai replied,

"Ma'am, that's fine, but don't hit people.

Look where you're going."

Kai walked away, hands in his pockets, whistling softly.

The woman returned to the man.

"Is everything done?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied.

"I punctured his soul."

"What?"

"By bumping into him, I punctured his soul slightly.

A small leak may happen, but his soul will release a huge amount of presence."

"That kind of leak can be dangerous."

She smiled.
