Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

nch was done with and the family sat down to watch television together.

"I hope you know what it means to be married into a family of our calibre?"

"I don't understand," Jasmine replied immediately the question was asked.

"My darling, it takes more than being an independent woman and a cook to become the wife and daughter in law of the Bryan-Hills family. How do you intend to cope and take care of the businesses and the empire at large?"

"What businesses?" Jasmine asked not believing her ears. She was quite confused. Davidson was a doctor and Mr Bryan was retired. What business could Mrs Bryan be talking about?

"Elena! Stop this at once,"Mr Hills ordered.

"No, I won't," she replied." How would she cope? We are talking about the legacy of the one and only Bryan-Hills family."

"Bryan-Hills? Isn't that the name of the most powerful Mafian family?" Jasmine asked in disbelief as she turned towards Davidson. "Is your surname Bryan-Hills?"

Davidson just stared on.

"Answer me," she nearly screamed.

"Jasmine, calm down….."

"Don't tell me to calm down!! You lied to me!! So you are the most rumoured Davidson Bryan-Hills? I…I…" she couldn't finish as the tears ran down her face.

"Let me explain," Davidson said as he tried to hold her.

"Don't touch me," she screamed and ran out of the mansion.

Davidson sighed and slumped on the couch.

"Elena, what was that about?" Mr Hills asked.

"Well, I just wanted her to know the kind of family she was marrying into. Isn't it a shame that Davidson couldn't even tell her his full surname?" She replied indiffently.

"You are so unbelievable. What did you do that for?"

"I did what was right for my son…."

"You just ruined my life!" Davidson screamed before she could complete her statement. "Jasmine was the only meaningful thing that has happened in my life and now, she is gone."

"Calm down, son…"

"No dad. If she doesn't want me anymore because of what mum did today, the both of you should know that you'll lose a son." He said, his eyes burning with rage." Excuse me." And with that, he walked away.

"Like I care!" Mrs Hills scoffed.

"Elena!"

Davidson was in the wine cellar drinking away his sorrow when Jayden and Daisy barged in..

"My gosh, bro, you look wasted."

"Put yourself together, Hills. It isn't the end of the world."

"Why must she do that? Why does she hate Jasmine on first sight?"

"Hills, Jasmine is a normie. There are every chances that she won't be able to handle things around here. Trust me, we've been best friends for as long as I can remember."

"She didn't even give me a chance to explain…"

"Bro, stop being pathetic. You are Davidson Bryan-Hills. Please don't let your mum know you now have a weakness. She would kill you before you can even….."

"Get out, the both of you."

"What?"

"I said out! Have you gone deaf?"

"Hills!"

Jayden grabbed her hand." Come on darling, let's give him time to sort himself out."

"Whatever!" Daisy hissed.

Davidson was outside Jasmine's house but he couldn't bring himself to knock on the door. He paced to and fro, his courage failing him. At that point, he wondered what Jasmine had done to him to make him feel this way. He was never known to be soft hearted or weak but now, it was worse because he felt even helpless. Jasmine hasn't been picking his calls making it more tough for him to concentrate. He was still pacing, lost in thought when the door knob turned and Jane came out.

"Davidson," she smiled warmly." Do come in." She invited him before he could hesitate.

Gratefully, he followed her in and sat down on the couch.

"How is she?" He asked impatiently.

"She is still hurt and has barely said a word to anyone since then."

"I miss her badly. It's been two weeks and it feels like two decades in hell."

"I understand you totally. Give her time and she would come around."

"You think so?"

"Of course." Jane replied with a smile.

"That reminds me, we have an unfinished conversation, Jane Giovanni." Davidson said with a smirk.

Jane was taken aback.

"Where did you hear that name from?"

"You told me you knew me and funny enough, I had always thought that your face was quite familiar but I never imagined. Does Jasmine know that Daisy is her cousin?"

"No…" she stuttered.

"Does she also know that you are from the Giovanni line of assassins?"

Jane heaved a sigh." That was all in the past. Just before I met her father and he was willing to give me a chance. That was the main reason I gave you a chance with my daughter. It was in honour of her father who would do same."

"So, you knew?" Jasmine's voice cut in at that moment. "You knew who he was and yet you threw me at him? Is that how far you zeal for me to get married drove you? And Daisy was my cousin all this time and you never mentioned a thing about it to me…." The shock was too much and at that moment, she suddenly fell down unconscious.

"Jasmine!!!" Both screamed.

The ride to the hospital was taking longer than expected. Davidson was praying which was one thing he never did for his precious darling to be okay. Deep down, he knew he was never going to forgive himself or his mum if anything happened to her.

Luckily, the doctor on duty quickly rushed to attend to her while Davidson continued pacing to and fro in the corridors.

"Calm down, Davidson. She would be fine."

"I can't calm down…. It's all my fault this happened. If I hadn't pursued my love for her, she would have probably be perfectly fine with you right now."

"Don't say a thing like that. Jasmine loves you as much as you love her. I can assure you that. Let's just give her time to heal. She would gladly welcome you with open arms." Jane consoled as Davidson could only manage a sad smile.

The door was flung open and the doctor came out.

"Doctor, how is she?"

"Mr Davidson, congratulations are in order. Your wife is Six weeks pregnant!"
