When they parted, Nova noticed something different about her appearance beyond just the hair.
Her skin glowed more than before, with an ethereal luminescence that seemed to come from within. Her features, already beautiful, had refined themselves into something that seemed to bend the concept of attractiveness around itself. Even her proportions looked slightly different—more perfect, more idealized.
"You look different," Nova said, tracing her cheekbone with his finger. "What happened while I was unconscious?"
Luna laughed, the sound warm and genuine. Then her expression turned more serious.
"We really do need to talk, Nova. A lot happened while you were unconscious. About my breakthrough, my constitution, my... Heritage."
Nova's enhanced perception picked up the weight behind those words. "I'm listening."
Luna took a breath, organizing her thoughts. "First, the obvious part. I reached Peak Mahayana Realm during our cultivation session with the Infinite Qi."
"I can feel that. Congratulations. Though 'Peak Mahayana' seems like an understatement given the pressure I can sense from you now."
"That's because it's not just Peak Mahayana," Luna explained. "I also awakened a Dao-tier Lunar Constitution and achieved Early Lunar Dao comprehension."
Nova sat up slightly, his full attention now on her. "Dao comprehension? As in, beyond Laws?"
"Yes." Luna extended her hand, and moonlight materialized around it—not just reflected light, but actual moonlight conjured from the concept itself. "Laws govern the fundamental forces within solar systems. Control over gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear forces, space and time on a limited scale."
She clenched her fist and the moonlight compressed into a tiny sphere that radiated impossible power. "Daos govern entire galaxies and beyond. The chasm between Law and Dao is more than a hundred billion times in magnitude. A cultivator with peak Laws can destroy solar systems. A cultivator with Daos can reshape galaxies."
Nova whistled softly. "That's... that's beyond anything in the Middle Realm."
"Exactly. I can now move instantly anywhere in the Middle Realm—all three galaxies, three hundred fifty thousand light-years across. I can freeze time in localized regions spanning star clusters. I can manipulate gravity to create or collapse black holes the size of solar systems. I could destroy the entire Middle Realm with a single attack if I lost control."
She looked at him seriously. "I've transcended this realm, Nova. I'm not just the strongest in the Black Tide Sect or even the strongest on the continent. I'm approaching the absolute peak of what's possible in the Middle Realm."
Nova processed this, his enhanced mind working through the implications. "And the constitution? You said it's Dao-tier?"
"Yes. Dao-tier Lunar Constitution, inherited from..." Luna paused, then decided to share everything. "From my mother."
She shifted to sit cross-legged facing him, her expression vulnerable in a way Nova had never seen before.
"The memories unsealed when I achieved Lunar Dao. Everything I'd forgotten, everything that had been hidden from me for over a thousand years. Nova, I need to tell you who I really am."
"I'm listening," Nova said gently, taking her hands in his.
Luna took a breath. "My name isn't just Luna Ophelia. That's the name the former Black Tide Sect Master gave me when I was left in her care as an infant. My true name is Lunaria Nightborne."
"Lunaria Nightborne," Nova repeated, testing the name. "It's beautiful. Though I'll probably still call you Luna for short, if that's okay?"
"I'd prefer it, actually. Lunaria is... it's who I was supposed to be. Luna is who I became. I like who I became." She squeezed his hands. "But there's more. My parents..."
She explained everything. The sealed memories from her parents' perspective. Her mother Selene Nightwhisper, Saintess of the Lunar Spirit Clan in the Immortal Realm. Her father Kael Stormborne, mortal-born genius who'd ascended to heights that let him fight Peak Immortal Realm cultivators.
The forbidden love story. The escape. The legendary one-minute battle that shook the Immortal Realm. Her mother's desperate descent to the Middle Realm with baby Luna. The seals placed to hide her heritage.
Nova listened without interrupting, his expression shifting from surprise to understanding to protective anger when she described her parents' fate.
"They might still be alive," Luna said, her voice thick with emotion. "The memory didn't say they died. Just that they didn't know if they'd survive. They could be imprisoned, or dead, or escaped to realms beyond the Immortal Realm. I have no way to know."
"Then we'll find out," Nova said firmly. "When we're strong enough, we'll go to the Immortal Realm and search for them. And if they're imprisoned, we'll free them. If they're dead..." His jaw tightened. "Then we'll avenge them."
Luna's eyes glistened with unshed tears. "You say that so simply. As if it's already decided."
"It is decided. You're mine, which means your family is my family. Your parents gave up everything to protect you. The least we can do is find out what happened to them."
Luna threw her arms around him, holding tight. "Thank you. You don't know how much that means to me."
They stayed like that for a long moment before Luna pulled back, wiping her eyes.
"There's more. The constitution awakening didn't just unlock memories of my parents. It unlocked clan memories—information encoded in my Lunar Spirit bloodline."
"What kind of information?"
"Locations," Luna said, her eyes distant as she accessed the inherited knowledge. "The Lunar Spirit Clan's ancestral palace in the Immortal Realm. Hidden sanctuaries scattered across multiple realms. Secret cultivation sites where Lunar Spirits gather moonlight essence."
She focused, pulling up more details. "And treasures. My mother and father, before they had to flee, gathered resources and hid them away. Cultivation manuals. Spirit stones of grades that don't exist in the Middle Realm. Weapons forged from materials I don't even have names for. Pills that could extend lifespan by millions of years."
"Hidden in the Immortal Realm?" Nova guessed.
"In a pocket dimension my mother created, anchored to a location only I can access. The memories include the exact coordinates and the method to open the dimensional seal." Luna met his eyes. "It's our inheritance, Nova. Everything they managed to save before they had to run. It's waiting for us when we ascend."
Nova's mind raced with possibilities. "That's... that's incredible. With those resources—"
"We could advance through the Immortal Realm much faster than normal," Luna finished. "My mother was the Saintess. My father was a genius cultivator. The treasures they accumulated would be considered priceless even in the higher realms."
She smiled slightly. "Of course, we have to actually reach the Immortal Realm first. And to do that safely, we need to be at least Peak Mahayana. Ascending any earlier would just make us targets for the various factions."
"Then that's our goal," Nova said. "Get me to Peak Mahayana, then we ascend together. Find your parents if they're alive. Claim the inheritance they left. And if the Lunar Spirit Clan tries to interfere..." His eyes hardened. "Well, by then we'll be strong enough to make them reconsider."
Luna studied him for a moment, then asked the question that had been nagging at her. "You're taking all of this remarkably well. Most people would be terrified learning their lover is a forbidden hybrid with an Eternal-tier constitution and a target on her back from one of the most powerful clans in the Immortal Realm."
"Most people are idiots," Nova said bluntly. "Besides, I have my own secrets. My own forbidden existence. We're both hiding things that would make us the most hunted beings in existence if they got out."
"Your constitution," Luna said. "The one that lets you open gates to impossible dimensions. You still haven't told me what it really is."
"And I will," Nova promised. "When I'm ready. When I understand it better myself. But know that it's something that transcends normal cultivation, just like yours. We're both anomalies. Both forbidden in different ways. Which means we understand each other in ways no one else could."
Luna nodded slowly. "Fair enough. We all have secrets. As long as we face the future together, the secrets don't matter as much."
"Exactly." Nova pulled her close. "Now, tell me more about this Dao comprehension. What's the difference between your Dao-tier constitution and my Supreme-tier physique?"
Luna settled against him, organizing the knowledge that had flooded into her consciousness. "Constitutions and physiques are fundamentally different. Physiques are about the physical body—how it's structured, how it processes energy, what capabilities it has. Your Supreme-tier physique, whatever it truly is, operates on principles that exceed mortal understanding."
"And constitutions?"
"Constitutions are about fundamental existence. They're not just physical—they're metaphysical. A Dao-tier constitution doesn't just give you a powerful body. It gives you an intrinsic connection to the Dao itself. In my case, to Lunar Dao."
She manifested her phantom moon again, letting it cycle through phases. "This isn't a technique I learned. It's an expression of what I am. I don't use Lunar Dao. I embody it. The difference is subtle but profound."
"So your constitution is like... a bridge between you and fundamental reality?"
"Exactly. And Dao-tier is already among the highest classifications. Above that is Eternal-tier, which..." Luna paused, remembering her mother's warning about the sealed constitution. "Which is so rare that most cultivators go their entire lives without meeting someone who possesses one."
She didn't mention that she had an Eternal-tier constitution sealed within her. That secret would wait until she was strong enough to reveal it.
Nova absorbed this, his enhanced comprehension processing the implications. "And the Lunar Spirit bloodline? What does that give you?"
"Innate affinity for all things lunar. Moonlight, tides, cycles, gravity, shadow. I can transform into pure moonlight—become intangible. I can manipulate gravity on a scale that affects entire star systems. I can freeze things to absolute zero and beyond, stopping not just motion but the concept of change itself."
Luna demonstrated by freezing a small object on the bedside table. The object didn't just become cold—it became locked in temporal stasis, its atomic structure frozen in perfect stillness.
"I can create micro-singularities. Bend light with gravitational lensing. Control shadows as if they were solid matter. And I can regenerate from any injury as long as any moon exists anywhere in reality."
She released the freeze and the object returned to normal. "The bloodline also gave me knowledge. Techniques the Lunar Spirits use. Understanding of cosmic principles. And the clan memories I mentioned—locations, treasures, secrets."
"That's..." Nova shook his head in amazement. "You're basically a demigod at this point."
"In the Middle Realm, perhaps. In the Immortal Realm?" Luna smiled wryly. "I'd be considered a promising young talent. Maybe. The power scaling continues upward far beyond what we can currently imagine."
She traced patterns on his chest absently. "But that's why we need to advance quickly. The longer I stay in the Middle Realm at this power level, the more likely it is that someone from the Immortal Realm will detect my presence. Especially if I use my full power in combat."
"So we keep our heads down, advance rapidly, and ascend as soon as we're both ready," Nova summarized.
"Exactly. Which means I need to help you reach Peak Mahayana as quickly as possible." Luna looked at him seriously. "How long do you think it will take?"
Nova considered. "With normal cultivation? Decades at minimum, even with my Perfect Foundation and absurd advancement speed. But with periodic access to the Infinite Qi dimension..."
He calculated using his enhanced processing. "I need to breakthrough to True Qi Condensation Realm first. That's the lost stage between Qi Refining and Foundation Building. Then proceed through Foundation Building, Golden Core, Golden Formation Building, Spirit Transformation, True Self, and finally Mahayana."
"That's seven major realms," Luna noted. "Even with unlimited resources, that's normally a journey of thousands of years."
"For normal cultivators, yes. But I'm not normal. With the Infinite Qi gate, my Perfect Foundation ensuring flawless advancement, and the Eternal Cycle Tempering keeping my body and soul synchronized..." Nova met her eyes. "I think I can do it in less than a year. Maybe as little as six months if I push hard."
Luna's eyes widened. "That's insane. That's—"
"Impossible by normal standards, yes. But we're both beyond normal standards now." Nova grinned. "Besides, I have excellent motivation. The sooner I reach Peak Mahayana, the sooner we can ascend together and start searching for your parents."
Luna kissed him deeply, pouring all her gratitude and love into the gesture. When they parted, she was smiling through tears.
"Six months then. We have six months to prepare, to gather what resources we can, to stabilize our foundations. Then we leave the Middle Realm behind and face whatever the Immortal Realm has waiting for us."
"Together," Nova confirmed.
"Together," Luna agreed.
They lay back down, Luna curling against Nova's side, both of them processing everything that had been shared.
The path ahead was clear. Dangerous, yes. Potentially deadly. But clear.
And they would walk it together, two forbidden existences supporting each other as they ascended beyond the realms that had tried to define their limits.
Outside the window, the real moon was rising, and Luna felt it resonate with her newly awakened Dao.
Six months.
Then the real journey would begin.
