Every last bit of hope shattered. I had seen the light, the one at the end of the tunnel, but it was getting dim.
My legs moved despite my internal protest. My eyes focused on everything and nothing at the same time. My life was about to change… I really didn't have the little worth I thought I did. When it came to it, I was just livestock, only property.
I was nothing.
Then in what felt like the final moment, I felt a delicate, but firm hand wrap around my wrist, pulling me to a stop.
I instantly turned around to find my sister's determined gaze; the tears I couldn't cry streaming down her face. She tightened her trembling lips, giving me a nod. 'I've got you.'
I understood at once, although it didn't ease my worry. In this lineup, she stood no chance. I resigned.
"Young Lady…" Mr Feng's father warned.
