"Run!"
Kai grabbed Anna's hand, his lungs burning.
The grid beneath their feet was glowing a menacing, blood-red hue.
"The pattern!" Kai shouted, his eyes scanning the chaotic floor.
"It's Sudoku! The missing integer is 8!"
He pulled Anna forcefully into the box marked [8].
[CORRECT.]
[CAPACITY - 2 PERSON ]
A wave of relief hit him, but it was short-lived.
Around them, the chaos had thinned.
Kai felt a violent trembling in his grip.
It wasn't his hand that was shaking; it was the tiny fingers gripping his palm, desperately seeking warmth.
Kai crouched down, forcing a calm expression.
"Are you scared?"
Anna shook her head, though her trembling gave her away.
Kai squeezed her hand gently. "It is okay. This Mister will definitely save you. No matter what."
Hearing this, the terror in the little girl's face faded, replaced by a fragile, trusting brightness.
But the arena was merciless. The mob had been whittled down.
The weak had been sacrificed as stepping stones.
Now, as the safe zones shrank, only four people remained in the center of the Colosseum.
Kai. Anna. The Masked Man. And The Tank.
[FINAL PHASE INITIATED]
[SAFE ZONES REMAINING: 2]
[CAPACITY: 1 PERSON PER ZONE]
Kai's heart stopped. Two boxes. Four people.
"You insects!" The Tank roared, his eyes bloodshot with pure madness. "Trying to steal my prize?!".
His body began to mutate.
Muscles tore through his heavy plate armor, expanding until he stood thirteen feet tall—a grotesque mountain of flesh bloated by defensive stats.
Where his heart once lived, a twisted Möbius strip now bled.
It was a loop of crimson stained with a singular, weeping edge, encircling a black skull made of digital dust.
The system's verdict echoed in his mind.
[CRIMSON PARADOX – EXECUTOR].
Before Kai could process the danger, the behemoth lunged toward the nearest glowing box.
Kai shoved Anna behind him, bracing for the impact.
But The Tank ignored Kai entirely.
He charged straight at the Masked Man, swinging a fist the size of a wrecking ball.
"Die, you silent freak!"
The Masked Man didn't flinch.
He didn't even dodge. He simply looked up, his white mask gleaming under the flickering arena lights.
"How dare you," the Masked Man said, his voice echoing with terrifying, unnatural authority.
"How dare you attack the Creator of this world?"
Slice.
There was no movement. Just a flash of silver light.
The Tank's arm fell off.
Then his legs. He collapsed, screaming in agony, reduced to a writhing torso in a fraction of a second.
The Masked Man casually stepped over the bleeding body and entered the first Safe Zone.
"One left," Kai whispered, his voice trembling.
He grabbed Anna.
"Go! Run to the last box!"
"Not without you!" Anna cried, planting her feet.
"Go!" Kai ordered, shoving her forward toward the green light.
But as Anna stumbled toward the final glowing square, a massive, bloody hand clamped around Kai's ankle.
"If I'm going to hell," The Tank gurgled, dragging his severed torso across the floor with his one remaining arm, "I'm taking you with me!"
Kai kicked savagely at the hand, but the grip was like iron. "Anna! Don't look back! Get in the box!"
Tears streamed down Anna's face as she crawled toward the green light.
She reached out her tiny hand to touch the safe zone...
Bzzt.
The box flickered.
It didn't turn red. It didn't turn off. It vanished.
A jagged, violet glitch tore through the floor, deleting the Safe Zone entirely.
"No..." Kai whispered.
Anna froze, her hand reaching for safety that no longer existed.
The "Corruption "—a swarm of black, pixelated static—erupted from the floor, swarming violently over her small legs.
"Mommy!" Anna screamed, her voice breaking.
Seeing this, something inside Kai snapped.
His eyes, usually dark and gloomy, suddenly flared with a violent, blinding Violet Light.
The Meteorite Shard resting deep within his soul reacted to his pure, unadulterated rage.
[ S Y S T E M I N S T A B I L I T Y ]
A sword of pure, crackling energy materialized in Kai's hand.
He didn't know how. He didn't care. He spun around and slashed downward.
The Tank didn't just die; he was erased. The energy blade incinerated him into digital dust, instantly freeing Kai's leg.
Kai scrambled forward, sliding across the stone.
"Anna! Hold on! I'm coming!"
But the Corruption was too fast. Her skin was already peeling away, turning into streams of blue data.
Suddenly, a golden rope of light whipped out and wrapped tightly around Kai's waist.
He was yanked backward with bone-jarring force, flying through the air—away from Anna, and straight into the Masked Man's box.
"Let me go!" Kai screamed, thrashing wildly against the bindings.
He landed heavily at the Masked Man's feet. The barrier of the Safe Zone shimmered around them both.
[SYSTEM OVERRIDE: CAPACITY MODIFIED TO 2 PERSONS]
The Masked Man looked down at Kai, his eyes behind the mask cold and calculating.
"You must not die. Not yet. You are still useful to the script."
"Save her!" Kai begged, pointing frantically at Anna.
"You changed the capacity! You have the access! Save her too!"
The Masked Man didn't even look her way.
Outside the barrier, Anna collapsed.
The pixels reached her neck. Her terrified eyes, filled with agony, locked onto Kai one last time.
"I want to see... Mom..." she wept, her voice distorting into heavy static.
"Mom... where are... y..." She glitches
She closed her eyes.
Pop.
She shattered into a million specks of light. Deleted from reality.
A half-second where everything freezes.
Even the system did not speak.
Kai fell to his knees, his forehead hitting the cold stone floor.
He clawed at his chest, unable to breathe.
"Sorry... I'm sorry... This Mister was too weak..."
[EVENT CLEARED.]
[REWARD: THE HARPE (LEGENDARY)]
A sickle sword, radiating immense, dimension-cutting power, materialized in the Masked Man's hand.
He inspected it quietly, then glanced down at the weeping Kai.
"Stop crying over fake people," the Masked Man said flatly. "It is pathetic. You scripted her death."
Fury, hot and blinding, overtook Kai's grief.
He let out a primal roar, launching himself at the Masked Man's throat.
But his hands grasped nothing but empty air.
[TELEPORTATION INITIATED]
The Masked Man vanished into a pillar of light.
Kai was left alone in the silent, empty Colosseum, clutching at the dust of a broken promise.
[The Present - City Hospital]
Kai gasped, his eyes snapping open.
The sterile white ceiling of the hospital waiting room greeted him.
The sharp smell of antiseptic replaced the phantom stench of digital blood.
"A dream..." Kai whispered, wiping a thick layer of cold sweat from his forehead.
"Why now? Was it because I'm here for her mother?"
He slowly sat up, his body still aching from the Mind Realm trial he had endured hours earlier.
Heavy-footed, he walked down the quiet hallway and stopped in front of the viewing window of Room 369.
Inside, a frail woman lay suspended in a high-tech stasis pod.
But she didn't look normal. Her body was flickering—phasing in and out of reality like a corrupted hologram.
"You can't go in there," a doctor said, appearing behind him with a clipboard.
"I know," Kai said, his voice hollow.
"Radiation Drift."
"That's right," the doctor sighed, checking the charts.
"We call it Dimensional Displacement Syndrome".
"Her atoms are drifting out of phase," the doctor said quietly.
"If it continues… she won't exist in this dimension anymore."
The doctor looked at Kai's worn-out clothes sympathetically.
"We're doing our best to stabilize her anchor, but without a cure... she's fading."
Kai didn't reply.
He placed his bare hand against the cold glass, his dark eyes locked onto Anna's mother.
Anna died calling for you, Kai thought, the memory burning a hole in his chest.
I couldn't save the daughter. But I swear on my life... I will save the mother.
"Doctor," Kai said, his voice returning to its usual cold, flat tone—the tone of the Architect.
"Keep her alive. I'm going to find the cure."
