Adam's heart skipped for a moment, but he quickly maintained his composure. "It might have been one of the servants."
Kelvin finally looked at him but he shook his head. "She didn't look like one." His tone brimmed with confidence.
A servant dressed so elegantly and carrying herself with such composure certainly did not seem likely.
Adam drew in a quiet breath. 'Never thought his sight could be that discerning.'
For a moment, he wondered what his sister had been thinking by allowing herself to be seen.
"Then maybe it was my sister," Adam finally admitted.
It would look suspicious if he continued denying the woman's existence. Worse, it might make Kelvin start asking questions he was not prepared to answer.
Kelvin nodded slowly. "She is really beautiful."
He paused and glanced toward the stairs once more. "Like her."
Adam almost laughed nervously. 'Can you really not be so blunt?'
