The gentle call finally reached her. Sonia blinked once, then a second time. Gradually, the shock frozen in her eyes began to recede, and her gaze slowly returned to Adams once more.
For a brief moment, she simply looked at him, as though trying to reconnect the words she had just heard with the reality standing before her.
Her lips parted slightly before she finally found her voice. "Did you..." she began, only to stop and swallow. She drew in a slow breath, as though carefully choosing every single word before allowing it to leave her lips.
"Did you say... that I'm pregnant?" Her voice was unusually quiet, almost fragile.
She spoke each word slowly and deliberately, almost afraid that saying them too quickly would somehow make them more real.
