"Mistaken?" Adams scoffed, the corner of his lips lifting slightly as though the very suggestion was absurd. "I don't mistake things that I am very sure about."
"That's not true, Adams. We all make mistakes sometimes," Sonia countered calmly.
"Yes, but this sort of low-level mistake..." He leaned back in his chair and crossed one leg over the other. "I, Adams, am far beyond that stage."
Joel shifted slightly where he stood near the wall, he really had to give his boss a thumbs up for his arrogance. Even Fred looked surprised.
Although they had already discussed the possibility privately, hearing Adams ask the question directly still caught them off guard.
The room fell into silence and the tension was palpable.
Sonia stared at him for several seconds before letting out a short laugh.
It was not a cheerful sound. It was strained and disbelieving. "You really must be mistaken."
She slowly shook her head. "My name is Sonia Young. It was never connected to Valentino."
