Chapter 6 - Cheshire and The Damsel

I knew that with my sister home, it meant one thing for me, she was going to smother me to death. I quickly decided to hide in the old study for the time being. However, the universe still was cruel even in another world. Miss Anna-May grabbed me and forced me to go and meet my sister. Of course I couldn't say no because of how scary she can be. Swallowing my fear, literally, I went down stairs to see my older sister. The renowned marksman of the family with an arms type magic class, Alesha Grimmseley Black. When she saw me, her first instinct was to squeeze,e so hard I almost fainted again. However, it would seem my mother was not only there to keep father in check.

" Sweetie! Let go of your brother before you kill him!!".

She said it with such an ominous tone that even made me shutter. My sister expressed her joy that I was finally well. She patted my head and gave me a gif t she bought in her way home. It was a crystal orb for communication, so I could talk to her even when she was in school. My father suggested they discuss recent events in his study. My sister, refusing to let go of me simply dragged me along, much to my dismay.

In the study, she explained why she had to come home.

"The school had closed down for the next few weeks due to the assassination of one of our sword instructors, Sir. Henwick "

My father's face contorted, a look of worry noticeable in his eyes. He turned to me and asked that I excuse them to discuss the matter in detail. I gave it no second thought. He need to be free from my sister's crushing hug, had overcome me. I dashed out of the room, excusing myself.

A few hours later,

I was in contemplation about how to evolve my skills. I had used inventory the previous day, to gather all sorts of ancient , magical knowledge. At the moment, I was refining my mana. A tome once written by an arch mage, gave detail of how constant suppression and release of mana in continued succession amplified it's purity and density as well as the individual's ability to control it well.

In my meditative state, I failed to notice my sister's presence. She had sensed the aura from the cart once more. She dashed towards the source, wondering what entity could possess such a immense aura. When she got to the edge of the garden, no one was there. She was curious, and turned to leave.

However, the truth was, I hadn't left. One of the wind type spells I had learnt was concealment. A wall of mana, shields you by perfectly projecting the image of your surroundings onto it's surface. Deactivating the spell, I decided to venture out into the forest in the persute of power.

Using the same concealment spell, I snuck out to the near by Vansneath Forest. Since I had no weapon on my person, I had an idea. Picking up a wooden stick, I poured out my mana into the stick. I focused on the shape I wanted to see, the fine details the density, the strength, the durability. The result I got pleased me quite a bit.

I had made a wooden sword. I decided to practice some of my kendo skills.

The sword was light but durable. As I swung and swung, something totally insane happened. A slash of energy came out of the wooden blade. I stopped suddenly, looking at the wooden blade with astonishment in my eyes. I was about to venture deeper, when suddenly, I heard the crashing of nearby trees. The sound was reminescent of a lumberer cutting trees. I realized much to my horror that the wooden blade was strong enough to cut through thick tree trunks. I was baffled at my own strength and questioned how powerful I was.

Deep in the forest, there were reports of goblins settling in a nearby cave. They hardly attacked the settlement in the day time. But at night, they go round stealing and attack passer-bys.

I activated my ultra blade skill and with my agility stat, leapt from tree to tree. After minutes of quick movement, I encountered a blue slime. Sparing no monster, I struck it, splitting it into two. I only gained five experience though. Soon after, I finally made to the Vansneath goblin cave. From he outside, the atmosphere from within seemed eerie. The stench of rotten flesh quickly gave the impression that living creatures had died in there. I clenched the blade in my grip and steeled my resolve.

Immediately after entering, I caught the attention of three goblins. They were low level. My guess was that they were going out to hunt, since the cave division led to a deeper section.

With new element of speed, I closed the distance quickly, slashing all three of them in the abdomen.

System notifications pouted in. I had evolved to level five. Venturing deeper into the caverns, I found more goblins, one head rolled, then the next, then the next. Soon after, I had killed over fifteen of the goblins.

I stopped to catch my breath and used fire ball to light up the cave.

I was in shock, when the whole cave suddenly tremored. I was startled, but had a hunch of what was coming out of that cave opening. A giant pair of grotesque feet, entered. And with it, the head and club clutching hand of a hob goblin. It's fangs were large and its body had the distinct stench of dried blood. Clutching my wooden sword, I decided to bring out my trump card. I took out an iron ingot from my inventory. Deforming the ingot, I coated my wooden blade with the deformed iron, giving my blade a much sharper edge and reinforced strength and durability.

I charged at the hob goblin, who spared no expense to crush me where I stood. Leaping onto his club, I dealt a decisive strike to it's right eye, planting,y feet to the ground behind it.

The beast roared with a mix of fury and agony. It turned and swung at me once more, shattering the cave wall but missing my body. Deciding to end it with the next strike, I charged up ultra blade and dashed forward. Evading all its strikes, I leapt once more and brought my blade down on its head, impaling and splitting it's head.

The system notifications flooded in once more. My level had sky rocketed.

I couldn't contain my excitement. I screamed for joy, placing my weapon in my inventory. I was curious about my warp portal skill, and wondered whether it was like teleportation. I activated it and thought of going outside the cave. Soon after, I was right there. A flash of golden light had carried me there. I thought of using it to go home. However, the distance from the manner was too long for the skill.

I had to walk back. Of course with my agility, it was an easy task. The sun was about to set and at night, you wouldn't want to be caught in the forest.

Dashing from tree to tree, I was almost out, when a sharp scream from behind me caught my attention.

A few meters away,

A young blonde haired girl is running in a tattered sun dress, marks all over her skin as she screams at he top of her lungs for her. Not far behind, a pack of night fangs, a race of wolves were in persute. She stumbled over a stocking out tree root, scraping her knee.

She knew it was over. The wolf pack rushed at her, fangs poised and ready to tear through flesh. In the last second, a masked child struck the leader of the pack. A night fang pack leader is much larger than the subordinates. Killing the pack leader, the remaining scattered in different directions.

August, wearing a Cheshire mask, was carrying the unconscious girl. Outside the forest, a now conscious twelve year old girl, asked for her saviour's name.

I was shocked at her boldness and conceded and gave her name, Cheshire. The girl repeated the name in a soft tone. An gust of wind swept past and with it, I vanished.

Back at the mansion, I was gave deep in ancient literature, when the silhouette of my sister came by my room door. She did not enter but rather walked brusquely to the old study. I was shocked, since no one ever went there. Deciding to follow her, I used the concealment spell to travel her. Sir looked around for a while before entering. I waited, holding the door from closing and entering. I heard a clack sound, which did not come from the door. Looking around, I saw no one. No grave of my sister, nothing. Even her aura was gone. I returned to my room and pondered on what had just happened. I decided to keep a close eye on my sister from then on.
