Chapter 70 – Beneath the Mist: Mastery and Awakening
I. Dawn in the Frost Pavilion
Elara woke before dawn. The air in her room was biting, but for the first time, she felt the chill as an embrace rather than a wall. She knew today would be special: Samael had summoned her to the Frost Pavilion, a chamber where the ice never melted and every stone held the memories of generations of cultivators.
Upon arrival, she found Samael already meditating. Around him floated strands of Sanguine Qi and a subtle distortion of space; his presence was imposing yet serene.
—"Today, we will do something different," Samael said without opening his eyes. "I do not want you to imitate me. I want you to challenge me."
Elara hesitated but nodded. She sat across from him, the cold of the floor seeping through her clothes. Both breathed in synchrony, Elara's Qi of frost and mist blending with the whirlpools of void and space spinning around her master.
II. The Inner Challenge
Samael guided her into a deep meditation, leading her into her own Spiritual Sea.
—"Breaking through to a new realm is not just an accumulation of energy," he explained. "It is like shattering the ice of an ancient lake: you must accept the dark, freezing waters hiding beneath the surface."
Elara plunged into her memories: the abandonment of her childhood, the loneliness of the rift where she meditated for years, and the gnawing fear that she was not enough for such a grand clan. Samael's voice accompanied her softly: —"Do not flee from your shadows. Invite them to sit with you. Let the mist do more than just hide them; let it embrace them."
In her inner sea, Elara saw the figure of her younger self, trembling beside the Flower of Eternal Winter. The child looked up and whispered: —"Why can't I be strong like them?"
Elara knelt beside her, wrapping her in a frozen haze. —"You don't have to be like them. You only have to be the best version of yourself."
The frost on the ground cracked, and from the rifts sprouted roots of bluish light. Elara felt the mist in her heart cease to be a weight; it was now her refuge and her weapon.
III. The Patriarch's Test
Seeing that Elara was close to shattering her limits, Samael stood up. He used his mastery over space to distort the hall, creating an illusory environment where Elara was surrounded by replicas of her ancient fears and enemies.
Each replica tried to tempt her: —"Give up. Return to the solitude." —"Here, you are but a withered flower amidst the glory of others."
But this time, Elara did not dodge or attack with rage. She raised her palm, condensed Qi of mist and frost, and expanded it into a haze so dense it drowned out the voices. —"I do not seek to belong by force. I am winter, and in my cold, there is life for those who do not fear to draw near."
The illusion crumbled. Samael, impressed, discreetly activated the System's Investment Function: Elara's effort and spiritual growth bore fruit for both, increasing the Qi available to the clan and strengthening the master-disciple bond.

Elara's Qi exploded in waves of frost and silver mist, so powerful that the entire hall was momentarily covered in shimmering crystals. Samael placed a hand on her shoulder, pride clear in his eyes: —"Today, you have done more than grow as a disciple. You have proven that even ice can shine with its own light."
IV. Strengthening the Bond and the Teaching
After the trial, Samael offered Elara a cup of hot tea. They sat near the jade lamp, the warm atmosphere contrasting with the frost.
—"The path will be harder from here on," Samael warned. "The higher you climb, the colder the world can become. But the auroras are also seen from much further away."
Elara looked at the surface of the tea, where the mist of her breath formed ripples. —"Do you think I will ever stop fearing loneliness?"
Samael shook his head with a sincere smile. —"He who does not fear at all will never truly protect anyone. But now you have roots in this clan… and a master who will not let you fall."
Elara nodded, and for the first time since her arrival, she allowed a tear—small, shimmering, and frozen—to slide down her cheek without feeling shame.
V. Finale – Clan Recognition
When Samael and Elara returned to the plaza, the elders and the Top 20 Sequence were waiting. Lilith, sensing the shift in Elara's Qi, nodded in satisfaction.
Kael, with his usual humor, tossed her a combat gauntlet: —"Welcome to winter, sister. Now you can finally challenge us without us having to hold back."
Aylin and Lys embraced her, the circle of acceptance finally complete. The junior disciples looked at her with new eyes: she was no longer the silent outsider, but the Mist Flower that had bloomed on fertile ground.
Samael, from a distance, knew that the true feat of a master is not just passing on techniques, but lighting the spark that allows disciples to break their own chains.
