Akeno carried out Rias's instructions with her usual grace and precision.
But she couldn't help giving her president a curious glance. "Rias… you seem a little off today."
Rias huffed. "What's wrong with me?"
Akeno's lips curved into a knowing smile. "I'm getting strong jealousy vibes."

Rias started to deny it instinctively, then froze.

She sank onto the sofa, staring into space. Cain's face drifted unbidden into her thoughts.

Rias snapped out of it, tossed her crimson hair, and laughed lightly. "Fine, I admit it."
"Nothing to be ashamed of."
Akeno giggled. "If that's the case, you've got plenty of competition."
Rias fell silent.
Damn. That was painfully true.
She wasn't the possessive type.
But Cain was really a scumbag.

Cain strolled downstairs, iced cola in hand. "Someone already made breakfast?"
Akemi was setting the table. She caught sight of him and stiffened.
Her ears went scarlet. "M-Master… your clothes…"
Cain glanced down, shirt unbuttoned and some marks were visible. "What's the problem? You've seen it all before."
Akemi's eyelid twitched.
No way to argue with that.
Cain sat across from her, grinning slightly. "Actually, I'm looking forward to you joining in."
Akemi's voice dropped. "Master, aren't you worried you'll bite off more than you can chew?"
Cain patted his chest confidently. "Look at me. Absolutely no problem."
Akemi's mouth twitched.
Her own Master.
How could he be this shameless?

Akemi's thoughts froze. She shook her head violently.

Esdeath lounged in her command chair, staring listlessly at the strategic map.
"Boring."
The northern tribes were pathetically weak.

She shook her head, ready to retire for the night, when her gaze sharpened.
"What's this?"
A sheet of black parchment materialized in front of her.
Instinct took over. She snatched it.

Esdeath's brow arched.
She didn't recognize the script, yet the meaning flowed into her mind effortlessly.
"Devils, huh? Interesting."
A dangerous smile spread across her lips. Cold excitement glinted in her icy eyes.
If it truly summoned a devil… would it finally give her the battle she craved?
She dipped a quill and signed without hesitation.
"Come, devil. Answer my call."
Anticipation flickered across her usually impassive face.
A legendary devil.
How strong would it be?
That was all she cared about.
Everything else was irrelevant.
Though… it was probably fake.
Her eyes narrowed.
She'd find whoever dared toy with her and make them regret it.
Disappointment crept in.
Then brilliant light flooded the tent.

The contract rose, transforming into a complex magic circle on the floor.
Esdeath shot to her feet.

Measured footsteps echoed.
A figure stepped from the circle.
A Silver haired man appeared before her eyes.
"You… are truly a devil?"
Esdeath's voice held rare disbelief.
The magic circle was undeniable proof.
"You summoned me," Cain said with a faint smile. Black wings unfurled behind him with a soft rush. "Is this not enough?"
Esdeath's breath caught.
Even for her, this shattered expectations.
I've actually crossed worlds.
Cain's eyes glinted as he took her in.
The instant he saw Esdeath, he knew.
