Chapter 4 - CH 4: Summons

[NOTICE: You have summoned a Unique Wolf.]

"Unique Wolf? Isn't that the second-lowest rank I can summon, even with my racial advantage? What bad luck."

Alex put those unwanted thoughts aside and focused back on the wolf.

It was quite big, with gray fur and wisps of electricity coming out of its body. It looked imposing and majestic at the same time, with sharp, intelligent eyes and an aura that screamed power.

But before Alex could become fully lost in his own world, a voice broke him out of it.

"Master."

Alex briefly looked around, but quickly found out that the voice was coming from the wolf in front of him, who now had its head bowed to him in a show of respect.

"So... this is the connection effect from my trait. Not only that, but I just felt my strength increase. Is this from the 10% shared attributes from my summon?"

Alex was once again talking to himself.

This was one of his flaws. Whenever he found something interesting, he became so absorbed in it that he forgot about everything else.

He had almost died a bunch of times because of this flaw.

Like the time he found a perfume on a girl that smelled nice and proceeded to follow her just to ask for the name and where she bought it, which made him end up late for school.

Or the time he found a white bird with a single strand of black on its head. This made him proceed to catch the bird and crossbreed it with a black bird that had only a single strand of white on its head to see what their child would look like.

As for the result...

Let's just say it was unique.

Back to the topic at hand.

"Can I see your status window?" Alex asked the wolf through his mind.

"Yes, Master. You can see my status window, but I can't see it myself," the wolf replied.

"Oh... Why is that?" Alex asked.

"Master... According to the knowledge in my head, beast-type creatures don't see their status windows. Instead, the information is directly given to their brains. Some beasts are not intelligent enough to understand what these words mean, so this allows them to have a better understanding of their abilities than those with readable skills. All of this is knowledge I received after being summoned."

"Interesting. Well, later you can tell me more about the information and knowledge you received. For now... STATUS."

The wolf's status appeared in front of Alex.

[Status]

Lv. 1

Age: 0

Name: None

Race: Gray Lightning Wolf (Unique)

Title: None

STR: 20

AGI: 25

HP: 20

STA: 25

Mana: 20

Magic: 20

Abilities: Lightning Movement (Lv. 1), Lightning Claw (Lv. 1)

"So, this is a Unique Wolf. It's freakishly strong for a Level 1. But why doesn't it have a Talent section? And instead of skills, it has abilities?"

"But also... doesn't that mean my health status is simply crazy?"

Alex looked at his own stats.

STR: 13 → 15

AGI: 15 → 17.5

HP: 100 → 102

STA: 19 → 21.5

Mana: 120 → 122

Magic: 120 → 122

"So this is how it feels to increase my stats... It's kind of addictive."

"If I didn't have such good body control already, I would have lost control of even the most minute movements of my body. But still, it doesn't feel uncomfortable. It just feels like my body naturally became this strong."

"I am sure even normal people wouldn't have too much trouble getting the hang of controlling their bodies if their stats increased."

But then his attention was drawn to the increase in his health stat.

100 → 102

"So, the increase from my summons doesn't count as a permanent increase... Is it because if they die, I might lose the increase in stats?"

Thinking about it more, that seemed to be the case.

Before he became lost in thought again, he remembered their current situation and faced the still-bowing wolf.

"You don't have a name, right?" he said.

"Yes, Master," the gray wolf replied respectfully.

"Okay. I will give you one, then," Alex said casually.

"Thank you so much, Master!" the wolf said excitedly, wagging its tail.

"Why is he so excited?"

"Okay... Let's see. What should I call you?"

Before he could finish, another notification flashed in front of him with a Ding and a singular word he was beginning to love seeing.

Ding!

NOTICE:

[Eye of Evolution Activated.]

[Gray Lightning Wolf's evolution path can be affected by the type of name given.]

[Notice: Finding the most suitable name...]

[Name found.]

[Possible name based on Master's world language...]

[Successful.]

[Best name is: BOLT.]

Just as Alex thought it was over, another notification appeared.

[NOTICE: Naming a beast consumes Mana. Master currently lacks enough Mana to name the Gray Lightning Wolf.]

[Please activate Combination and combine the name "BOLT" with the Gray Lightning Wolf.]

[This will consume 1 usage of the Combination Effect but requires no Mana.]

After reading all that, Alex was shocked by several things.

"Was that my Evolution Trait?"

He quickly analyzed the situation and understood why the Gray Wolf was so excited.

"So, even with my high Mana, I can't even name a Level 1 wolf? And names affect this so-called evolution path?"

Alex eyes narrowed slightly.

"And I can use Evolution to combine the name BOLT with the Gray Wolf without costing any Mana?"

There was also something else he had noticed.

All this time, only a few minutes had passed.

This was probably because he had always been good at thinking about multiple things at once, and his increased stats seemed to be enhancing his thinking capabilities a little.

However, he was also sure that naming him would cause a spectacle.

One he didn't want anybody here except Mick to see.
