Feng Che smiled warmly at Bulbasaur. "From now on, we are partners. We are family." He gently squeezed Bulbasaur's small foot. "This is a Salac Elixir I brewed. It will treat your neural discordance."
He pulled a vial of sky-blue liquid from his storage ring.
[Bulbasaur: B-Bana? Can this potion really cure my strange illness?]
The Bulbasaur stared at the vial, which seemed to contain a concentrated piece of the sky itself, even reflecting the drifting clouds above. Feng Che uncorked it and carefully poured the elixir into Bulbasaur's mouth.
Bulbasaur felt a cool, refreshing sensation flow through its entire nervous system. With a sudden burst of confidence, it leaped from Feng Che's arms to the ground. It moved its legs experimentally. For the first time, its body followed its mind's commands perfectly.
"Bana! Bana!"
Bulbasaur sprinted in circles, exhilarated. It wasn't tripping over its own feet anymore.
[Bulbasaur: It's a miracle! I'm not the Bulbasaur that can't walk straight anymore!]
It looked up at Feng Che with eyes brimming with gratitude.
"No need for thanks between family," Feng Che said, patting its head. "Now, keep this Leaf Crystal inside your bulb." He tucked the jade-like gem into the seed on Bulbasaur's back. As the Pokémon breathed, it would slowly absorb the massive reservoir of Grass-type energy, steadily increasing its strength.
"Bulbasaur, can you do me a favor?" Feng Che produced a large, dark seed—a Salac Berry seed he had saved after brewing his elixirs. "Can you use your talent to grow this?"
Bulbasaur extended a vine, took the seed, and sniffed it carefully. It closed its eyes, and a soft green aura enveloped its body. Under the stimulus of its unique energy, the seed became translucent and full. However, the effort seemed to drain the Pokémon.
Feng Che immediately offered an orange Stamina Potion, which Bulbasaur absorbed through its bulb. Reinvigorated, it dug a shallow pit, planted the seed, and channeled the Power of Nature and Grassy Terrain.
Grass carpeted the area instantly. The air became thick with life force, warming Feng Che and allowing the resting Ditto (currently an Arbok) to recover its fighting spirit. Eventually, a sprout broke the soil, rapidly growing, flowering, and bearing two large, high-quality Salac Berries. The plant withered immediately after being harvested.
So, accelerated growth is a one-time use per plant, Feng Che noted. Still, having high-grade berries on demand is an incredible resource.
Suddenly, Bulbasaur popped one of the berries into its mouth and chewed. It opened its mouth, and a massive sphere of green energy shot toward a distant waterfall.
BOOM!
The waterfall was literally cleaved in half by a blinding green flash.
Seed Flare?! Feng Che was stunned. The signature move of Shaymin? The system didn't list that! Can it convert the energy of high-grade berries into legendary-tier attacks?
However, Bulbasaur slumped over, its aura severely weakened.
[Bulbasaur: I shouldn't have eaten that... I'm a monster... the trainer will hate me.]
"Bulbasaur, you're not a monster," Feng Che said, scooping it up. "You're amazing! You just need to learn to control that power."
Feng Che then introduced the rest of the team. Ditto playfully transformed into a duplicate Bulbasaur to say hello; Corvisquire brought a bouquet of flowers; Litten launched a miniature sun of embers; and Froakie created a gentle rainbow with a Water Pulse. Even the stubborn Aerodactyl lowered its head to show respect under Feng Che's sharp gaze.
[Aerodactyl: Just wait until I'm grown, human... but the frog and the cat seem okay.]
As night fell, the full moon rose, drenching the garden in silver. The Bulbasaur gathered around the great Cheri Berry tree, calling for their leader.
The ancient Venusaur emerged. It stood in the center of the moonlight, its red petals turning a shimmering silver. It let out a deafening, rhythmic roar. Every Bulbasaur and Ivysaur answered in a specific frequency, creating a unified resonance of thought and energy.
"The ceremony isn't just magic; it's a group resonance," Feng Che whispered, watching the silver energy spread like pollen.
Every Bulbasaur touched by the light began to glow with the white radiance of evolution. Even Feng Che's Bulbasaur was enveloped in the light.
Poor little thing, the Venusaur thought, looking at Feng Che's partner. Every year he absorbs the energy, but he never transforms. I hope this human doesn't discard him when he fails to evolve again.
