Chapter 118 - The Bulbasaur That Flew to the Sky (Please Give PowerStones)

The best way to treat this Bulbasaur is with Salac Elixirs to boost its neural response speed, Feng Che thought. But a Bulbasaur that can't even use basic moves like Vine Whip? That's beyond strange.

Curious, he used the system to appraise its status.

Pokémon: Bulbasaur Gender: Male Potential: Epic (Cyan) Level: 25 Type: Grass/Poison Skills: Growth, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Sweet Scent, Synthesis, Seed Bomb, Petal Dance, Leaf Storm, Frenzy Plant, Solar Beam, Grassy Terrain, Sword Dance, Energy Ball, Power Whip, Grass Knot, Toxic. Status: Depressed, zero self-confidence. Evaluation: This Pokémon is incapable of learning basic moves like Vine Whip or Razor Leaf. However, it is a master of high-level Grass-type techniques and an absolute prodigy in berry cultivation.

Are you kidding me? Feng Che nearly laughed out loud. He had felt sorry for it not knowing Vine Whip, but this thing was packed with a moveset that most Elite Four Trainers would envy. It was absurdly comical.

A Cyan-potential Bulbasaur... Venusaur probably intended for it to be the successor of the garden, Feng Che mused. But Venusaur said we can take any Bulbasaur if we pass the trial. A top-tier Breeder needs a Grass-type capable of high-level cultivation. I can't let this talent go to waste.

Time for the first trial was half up. Using his vast experience, Feng Che had already identified which Bulbasaur produced the finest Cheri Berries.

"Time is up," Venusaur announced. "To be fair, I will lower the requirements. You only need to identify one of the top three quality berry piles to move on. Stand beside the Bulbasaur you believe produced the best crop."

The other trainers rushed toward the neatly stacked piles produced by the more "stable" Bulbasaur. Feng Che, however, walked straight to the depressed little troublemaker.

The Bulbasaur looked up, seeing a black-haired trainer looking down at him with a warm, encouraging smile. "Bulbasaur, your talent is immense. Don't look down on yourself."

[Bulbasaur: Really? A human thinks I'm strong?]

The little creature's eyes welled with tears. It tried to stand up in excitement, but its legs slipped, and it ended up doing an awkward split on the grass.

"Haha, you're adorable," Feng Che laughed, patting its head. He used some nearby vines to weave a small, secure seat. "Corvisquire, come down."

The blue bird descended. "Take the loop in your talons and give Bulbasaur a tour of the sky."

[Bulbasaur: B-Bana?] It looked at Feng Che with wide, watery eyes.

Corvisquire took off, lifting the Bulbasaur high above the garden. At first, the little frog was terrified, eyes shut tight as it gripped the seat.

"Bulbasaur, don't be afraid," Feng Che sent a telepathic message. "Open your eyes and look at the world beneath you. You'll see a side of life you've never known."

Empowered by Feng Che's voice, the Bulbasaur slowly opened its eyes. It gasped. For the first time, it saw the entirety of the Mysterious Garden from above—the golden sunlight gilding the flower fields and the sparkling streams.

"Bana! Bana!" It let out a joyful cry, laughing for the first time in years.

"Thank you, young trainer," Venusaur's voice echoed in Feng Che's mind. "He hasn't been that happy in a very long time."

"It's what a trainer does—open a Pokémon's heart," Feng Che replied.

"Intriguing. It seems you've chosen him. If you pass the combat trial and he chooses to follow you, he is yours. But be warned: he cannot use basic moves, his coordination is flawed, and he may never evolve into a Venusaur. Knowing this, do you still want him?"

"I'll take him, and I'll find a way to fix him," Feng Che answered without hesitation.

"Good... very good."

In the first round, the wealthy heir and the blonde girl were eliminated. Feng Che couldn't help but chuckle seeing the arrogant heir bundled up in vines like a cocoon.

"The second trial is combat," Venusaur declared. "Defeat an Ivysaur of equal level."

The fat man sent out a Pidgeotto so obese it couldn't even fly; it ran on the ground like a ostrich. Surprisingly, it was quite agile. The boy with glasses sent out a perfectly polished Magneton, clearly well-maintained.

Feng Che deployed Corvisquire.

The battle began. The Ivysaur fired a barrage of Razor Leaf like a hail of bullets. Corvisquire used Tailwind to dance through the projectiles, but the leaves turned around under Ivysaur's control.

"Corvisquire, use Hurricane! Sweep the leaves into the vortex!"

The bird created two massive twisters. The leaves were sucked in, and Corvisquire guided the storm toward the Ivysaur. The Ivysaur jammed its vines deep into the earth to anchor itself. Then, it released a cloud of purple Poison Powder, hoping the wind would carry it back to the bird.

Corvisquire didn't panic. It manipulated the air currents to trap the powder in a pocket and threw it back. The powder rained down on the Ivysaur, but the creature simply took a deep breath, inhaling its own toxin without harm.

The lung capacity of the Bulbasaur line is terrifying, Feng Che noted.

"Corvisquire, use Double Team, then Wing Attack!"

The bird blurred into three copies, charging with Quick Attack-enhanced speed. As it closed in, Feng Che saw a smirk on the Ivysaur's face. A trap.

Ivysaur's bulb began to glow with golden light. Solar Beam.

"Aero Ace!"

Corvisquire vanished in a flash, reappearing behind the Ivysaur and striking it with full force. The Ivysaur tried to retaliate by launching vines from underground, but it was too late.

"Now, Pluck!"

Corvisquire's beak elongated and sharpened. It struck like a drill, severing the Ivysaur's vine whips. Pale green sap leaked from the wounds.

"Enough," Venusaur intervened, using its own vines to channel healing energy into the fallen Ivysaur. "The battle is yours. Congratulations on passing the second round."
