Chapter 116 - Capturing the Primal Aerodactyl

This Aerodactyl actually has two potential bars. It seems its potential can still be restored. A Cyan-potential Aerodactyl is truly rare, Feng Che thought, his eyes gleaming. And it knows Dragon Breath and Dragon Dance. The dragon blood in this line must be exceptionally pure. If I nurture it well, it might yield incredible surprises.

Feng Che made an instantaneous decision. He had to have it.

"Come out, Froakie!"

He chose the nimble frog for this battle. Being near the underground river gave Froakie a distinct terrain advantage. "Froakie, end this quickly!"

The young Aerodactyl tilted its head and let out a piercing shriek.

[Aerodactyl: Another creature has appeared. I must call my kin! We shall hunt together!]

Feng Che's blood ran cold. If the entire swarm converged here, they'd be buried alive. "Froakie, don't let it finish that call!"

I'll have to use the underground river again to lose the pack, Feng Che planned, though he knew the risks. He had no idea where the subterranean current led.

"Froakie, use Bubble!"

Froakie leaped onto a massive limestone pillar, its adhesive pads allowing it to move across the damp, vertical surfaces as if they were level ground. It snatched two clusters of frubbles from its back and hurled them at the prehistoric predator.

The Aerodactyl blurred, weaving between the stone pillars with ghostly agility to evade the sticky trap. Feeling its pride wounded, a single scale on its flank stood on end. It entered an Outrage state. Its eyes turned blood-red, and its muscles swelled visibly.

"Watch out, Froakie! Its attack power just skyrocketed!"

[Froakie: What?! It dodged my bubbles? My training is clearly insufficient. When we get back, I'm increasing my target practice. And daily runs. Ten kilometers. No, twenty! The outside world is too terrifying!]

Feng Che sighed. My Pokémon is even more 'salty' and cautious than I am.

The Aerodactyl let out a roar that echoed through the grotto, answered by distant, thunderous cries from its kin. The cave began to shake.

On the Surface

"What's happening?!" a Senior Ranger barked at a researcher. The ground was vibrating violently beneath the League blockade.

"It's a massive move being used underground," the researcher replied, eyes glued to a seismic monitor. "The epicenter is a large cavern system. If we lock onto these vibrations, we've found the fossils!"

Back in the Grotto

"That roar will bring the League right to us," Feng Che muttered. "Froakie, Water Pulse!"

Froakie launched two high-speed, spiraling spheres of water. The Aerodactyl flapped its wings, and a ring of sharpened stones—Stone Edge—erupted around it, shredding the water pulses like bullets. The resulting splash drenched the ancient bird, causing it to shriek in irritation.

Its wings began to shimmer with a metallic sheen—Steel Wing. But the weight of the water on its wings made it sluggish.

"Now, Froakie! Aim for the eyes! Fling!"

Froakie lunged, throwing a concentrated mass of frubbles directly into the Aerodactyl's face. Blinded and panicked, the predator slammed into a stone pillar, snapping the limestone in two.

"Finish it! Water Gun!"

Froakie spat five precise jets of water, striking the Aerodactyl's vitals. The creature's wings went numb, and its head snapped back as if hit by a hammer. It crashed into the dirt, carving a deep furrow in the ground.

Roar!Roar! The sounds of the pack were now dangerously close. Feng Che could hear the beating of dozens of heavy wings and the scent of iron-rich blood in the air—the pack had finished their feast on the Kabutops and were coming for the intruders.

Feng Che threw a Poké Ball. The Aerodactyl, unconscious, was drawn in as a red light. The ball shook once... twice... three times... Click.

Captured.

"Ditto, now! Self-Destruct!"

Ditto, in the form of a Weezing, began to glow and expand. Feng Che recalled his other Pokémon and dove headlong into the underground river, breathing through an underwater respirator.

BOOM!

A massive explosion rocked the grotto, causing a ceiling collapse that blocked the pursuing Aerodactyls. The shockwave hit the water, tossing Feng Che like a leaf in a storm. He used his psychic power to shield himself from the jagged rocks on the riverbed.

Suddenly, he saw a glimmer of ice-blue on the floor of the river. He reached out and grabbed a hexagonal crystal before being swept further downstream.

After a long, turbulent ride, Feng Che felt the water drop away. He plummeted through the air, realized he was in the middle of a massive waterfall, and released Corvisquire. The bird caught him by the back of his shirt, easing him onto the shore of a deep, emerald pool.

"Safe... and look at this," Feng Che panted, opening his hand. The crystal glowed with a pure, chilling light. "An Ice Crystal. A perfect foundation for the Alolan Vulpix."

He looked around. He was well outside the Grand Canyon's blockade. The waterfall cascaded like a white silk ribbon into the pool, creating a misty, dreamlike atmosphere.

Suddenly, the bushes rustled. A dozen Bulbasaur emerged, frolicking by the water's edge.

"Is this... the Hidden Garden of Bulbasaur?" Feng Che's eyes widened. "It's just like the legends. This is the ultimate jackpot for Grass-type starters."

A grin spread across his face. The "Mole" mission was going better than he ever could have imagined.
