Chapter 72 - Capturing Shedinja

Suddenly, a flash of inspiration hit Feng Che.

"Found it! I remember I made some Repel potion."

He retrieved a tin of specialized Bug Repel from his storage bracelet. This wasn't the standard store-bought spray; it was a potent concoction designed to be revolting to Bug-type Pokémon.

"Go! Bug Repel!"

Feng Che aimed at the Level 48 Yanmega. He knew the ancient dragon was highly vigilant, but its advanced age and the strain of battle had dulled its reflexes. The tin hurtled through the air.

Seeing a projectile, the Yanmega instinctively lashed out with Air Slash. The sharp vacuum blades sliced the metal tin into pieces, drenching the Yanmega—and the nearby Shedinja—in a thick, yellowish-brown liquid.

An unfathomably foul stench erupted. It was so potent that the Yanmega nearly fainted from the smell, spiraling away in a frantic attempt to escape its own body. Even the emotionless Shedinja dispelled its Shadow Ball and scrambled for cover.

The battlefield fell into total disarray. Even the Scolipede and Ninjask slowed their fighting, gagging on the miasma.

"That was close. Thanks for the 'assist,' Yanmega," Feng Che wiped cold sweat from his brow. If the tin hadn't been broken mid-air, the scent wouldn't have dispersed fast enough to save the Pidgeot.

Now, with the Shedinja distracted, Feng Che saw his opening.

Shedinja only has 1 HP. Despite its terrifying level, any hit—even a stray spark—would down it. But its Wonder Guard ability meant only specific types could touch it.

Pokémon: Shedinja Gender: Genderless Potential: Outstanding (Yellow) Level: 41 Ability: Wonder Guard Type: Bug + Ghost Evaluation: Rare "Twin-Soul" Pokémon. Highly valuable.

"Go, Poké Ball!"

He threw a silver Rocket Great Ball just as the Shedinja tried to reform its Shadow Ball. The shell-Pokémon didn't even have a chance to phase out. It was struck and sucked into the ball. Shake... click.

Captured! A Level 41 Shedinja!

The disappearance of the Shedinja sent a shockwave through the clearing. Its "Twin-Soul" partner, the Ninjask, went into a berserk frenzy, attacking the Male Pidgeot with a suicidal intensity that even stunned the Scolipede.

Feng Che didn't stay to watch. He sprinted to where the Female Pidgeot had fallen. Her breathing was shallow, and her cream-colored feathers were soaked in blood.

[Female Pidgeot: My baby... my child...]

"This is bad. The egg is huge, and it's stuck in the birth canal. The tearing is causing massive internal bleeding," Feng Che diagnosed. If she didn't find the strength to push, both mother and child were dead.

"Good thing I have the Gracidea roots."

He ground the starchy bulbs into a paste, mixing it with Egg-Fruit juice. He didn't have any Oran berries left, but this "Orange Potion" would have to suffice. He and Linoone forced the bird's beak open and poured the medicine in.

The effect was near-instant. The hemorrhaging slowed, and the Pidgeot's body temperature began to rise.

"Pidgeot, look at me! You have to push! Do it for the baby!"

Through the agonizing pain, the mother's instinct took over. With a final, guttural cry, she expelled a massive egg—twice the size of a normal Pidgey egg—stained with blood. She immediately slumped over, falling into a deep, exhausted coma.

Feng Che gently moved the egg to a nest of dry grass prepared by Linoone. He then applied a paste of Lily-of-the-Valley to her wounds. The silver bell-shaped flowers acted as a powerful coagulant, sealing her injuries.

While Feng Che was focused on the surgery, Ditto had quietly approached the fallen Yanmega. The ancient dragon had finally succumbed to its wounds and the stress of the repel.

Ditto felt a primal, demonic urge. Its cells were screaming. It unhinged its jaw, stretching its pink body until it completely enveloped the Level 48 predator. In a matter of seconds, the Yanmega was gone, absorbed into Ditto's genetic library.

Feng Che finished bandaging the Pidgeot. Just as he stood up to wipe his brow, a massive shadow loomed over him.

The Male Pidgeot had returned, and a giant gale of wind threatened to blow Feng Che away.
