Chapter 68 - Cave Exploration

Feng Che bade farewell to the Pokémon and hurried toward the cave location Chuzhu had mentioned. Behind him, a massive snake head emerged from the brush—it was the Seviper leader, drawn by the scent of fresh blood left by the recent battle. If Feng Che had stayed even a moment longer, he would have run into his "old friend."

Beep, beep, beep.

His communicator chirped.

Tianchen:Kongjian, we found a spot with multiple chests, but it's a den of Ursaring. The leader is Level 40 and guarding a Gold Chest.Tianchen:The others are all around Level 30. Alice and I backed off; we didn't want to receive a Hyper Beam warning. It's breeding season, and they are incredibly aggressive right now.

In the wild, there are three Pokémon you never want to provoke: Gyarados, Ursaring, and Beedrill. They are petty and vengeful; one small slight can lead to a lifetime of pursuit.

Kongjian:Understood. I'm busy with something, but I'll regroup with you once I'm done.Kongjian:Tianchen, how much time until the "Nine-Star Alignment"?

This was the chance to awaken his psychic potential—a window Feng Che refused to miss.

Tianchen:I've calculated it. Three days from now. You'll need to find an open area with a clear view of the sky for the best effect.Kongjian:Pick a spot. I'll meet you there.

Feng Che closed the chat. Soon, he reached the location described by the ninja. It was impossible to miss: a literal curtain of vines draped over a cliffside like a frozen waterfall, covered in palm-sized white flowers. Beedrill, Butterfree, and Beautifly swarmed the area for nectar, while Weedle and Caterpie munched on yellow fruits hanging from the vines.

"An Egg-Fruit tree this size... how many years did it take to grow this large?" Feng Che marveled.

Egg-Fruits were tropical staples—dense, mango-scented, and incredibly filling. Their nutritional value rivaled Moomoo Milk.

"Ditto, Rookidee, Linoone—let's harvest some."

Rookidee used Peck to snip the stems, while Golbat-Ditto used its wings like blades to cut the higher clusters. Linoone stayed below, catching the falling fruit. Soon, a mountain of food sat on the ground. The local bug Pokémon didn't mind; there was more than enough for everyone.

"Ditto, find the entrance."

The Golbat-Ditto emitted high-frequency ultrasonic waves, scanning the cliff. It quickly found the hidden hollow, chirped, and beckoned Feng Che over. Behind a thick layer of vines, Feng Che spotted a scrap of black fabric—the same material as Chuzhu's ninja outfit.

He pushed through the vines to reveal a tunnel just wide enough for a person.

"Ditto, scout ahead. Linoone, stay by my side. Rookidee, watch our backs."

With his high-powered flashlight on, Feng Che entered. The air was damp and smelled of slight fermentation. The rustling of wings and chattering of unseen creatures made the cave feel eerie and oppressive.

A dark figure emerged from the shadows. Feng Che shone his light, revealing a pair of pale, soulless eyes beneath a massive mushroom. It was a Parasect, quietly planting fungi in the cave mud.

Pokémon: Parasect Gender: Male Potential: Elite (Orange) Level: 26 Type: Bug + Grass Moves: Spore, Poison Powder, Stun Spore, Absorb, Fury Cutter, Spore, Slash, Growth, Leech Life, Energy Ball, Nature Power Status: Happily planting mushrooms.

"A Parasect with Nature Power is a master gardener for herbs. Catching this will be worth a lot of points," Feng Che thought.

Parasect is notoriously easy to catch if you know the secret: the white spot on its mushroom is a nerve center. Feng Che hurled a Rocket Ball, hitting the mark. The ball didn't even shake; the capture was instant and the ball locked immediately.

"A shame I couldn't harvest its spores first," he muttered. Parasect spores were world-class sedatives. But he knew that if he tried to touch the mushroom, the Level 26 insect would have driven its claws through his chest.

Deeper into the cave, the sound of wings grew louder. He entered a wide limestone cavern where thousands of Zubat hung from stalactites. The sudden beam of light sent them into a frenzy of panicked shrieking.

[Zubat A: Human blood! It tastes better than Pokémon...][Zubat B: The blood of a scared human is like ice-cold wine.][Zubat C: Another fool. Does he think he can stop our King?]

Feng Che's expression grew grim. Most of these Zubat were only Level 8 or 9, but their sheer numbers were overwhelming. In the shadows, he saw three mummified corpses—Team Rocket recruits, their blood drained dry, their faces frozen in expressions of pure terror. Their Poké Balls lay scattered, the Pokémon inside dead along with their masters.

"The cruelty of the wild... I'll at least bury you when I'm done."

"Ditto, use Supersonic! Linoone, use Howl!"

Feng Che covered his ears. Ditto unleashed a wall of sound that echoed through the cavern. The Zubat, sensitive to sound, were thrown into a chaotic state of confusion. They began to attack each other, filling the air with a cacophony of screeching and clashing wings.

"Rookidee, use Whirlwind! Master the flow of the storm!"

As the cavern descended into a riot of noise and wind, Feng Che's light hit a pile of dark red droppings—each as large as a chicken egg.

Droppings this size? How big is the leader of this cave?

Large-bat guano was a prized medicinal ingredient in Team Rocket's database, but only if the bats fed on the blood of strong creatures.

Suddenly, the air above Feng Che's head displaced with a violent force. A massive gale swept through the room, nearly knocking him off his feet. A sense of primal dread washed over him.
