The sleep lasted until the following day. It wasn't until the sun streamed through the window and bathed Feng Che's face in warmth that he finally opened his eyes. The morning light felt incredibly comfortable, but he knew that in a few hours, the tropical sun would become a scorching tyrant capable of peeling the skin off anyone unprepared.
Feng Che reached over and poked the belly of the still-slumbering Ditto. It took quite a bit of prodding before the pink blob finally stirred.
This Ditto has incredible talent, it's just far too lazy, Feng Che thought, slightly exasperated by its extreme lethargy.
In contrast, Rookidee had been up for a while, silently darting around the treehouse. Curiously, there was no sound of flapping wings; this was a stealth technique Feng Che had been drilling into her. He had also instructed her to keep Tailwind active at all times to build muscle memory. If she could turn the active move into a subconscious passive state, she would truly become a force to be reckoned with.
"Let's go, Ditto. Time for training."
Ditto begrudgingly slurped down its berry juice, its thoughts echoing in Feng Che's mind.
[Ditto: Sigh... I love this life, but it's a 'pain and pleasure' kind of deal.][Ditto: Training every day is wearing me out.][Ditto: But the harder I train, the better the food gets. Is it worth it?]
The blob was caught in a deep internal struggle between its desire for luxury and its hatred of effort.
[Ditto: If I slack off, Feng Che senses it immediately. Wait... what if I could split? If I make a clone to do the training while the real me eats snacks in the shade...]
Feng Che's heart skipped a beat at that thought. If Ditto can create a functional double, theoretically, that double could also transform.
In the general knowledge of this world, Ditto is seen as a reactive Pokémon—it transforms into whatever is in front of it. But mine is different. It can achieve permanent forms by consuming genetic material. Is it a new species, or have people just never realized what a Ditto is truly capable of?
He looked at the blob as it let out a long, lazy yawn.
If Ditto learns to split its consciousness, it would be the ultimate combat tool. However, its stamina is currently a bottleneck. I need to craft more endurance-enhancing potions to turn it into a massive HP tank.
Legend says Ditto were failed clones of Mew, the ancestor of all Pokémon. Mew contains the DNA of every species; if Ditto shares that, its potential is limitless. If I could ever infiltrate the Mewtwo project and have Ditto consume those embryonic cells...
Feng Che shook off the grand ambition for a moment and focused on the immediate "split" idea. He decided to give the lazy blob a nudge.
"Man, this summer heat is killer," Feng Che said loudly, feigning a sigh while glancing at Ditto out of the corner of his eye. "I wish I could just make a clone of myself. The clone could go out and train while the real me stayed here in the cool shade."
Ditto's eyes practically sparkled.
[Ditto: Even the Trainer thinks that way! Why didn't I think of that sooner?][Ditto: I HAVE to learn to split. My body can handle the muscle memory, and once I reabsorb the clone, I'll get all the experience without the sweat. Haha, I'm a genius!]
The blob looked incredibly pleased with itself, wearing a wide, smug grin. (^^)
Of course, Feng Che thought, it's only motivated when it finds a way to be lazier.
Rookidee, meanwhile, was the polar opposite.
[Rookidee: Another day to get stronger! I will master Tailwind! I'll do it until I can use it in my sleep!]
Feng Che was less moved by Rookidee's ambition and more concerned about the logistics. If she actually managed to use Tailwind while sleeping, she'd probably just crash into the walls of the treehouse all night. He'd have to start locking her in her Poké Ball just so he could get some rest.
"Alright, enough daydreaming. To the training grounds!"
