Chapter 50 - The Beedrill Leader Appears

Just then, a series of rustling noises erupted from the thicket, interspersed with sharp, rhythmic chattering.

Alice tightened her grip on her Desert Eagle, her finger hovering over the trigger. Just as she was about to fire into the mist, Feng Che reached out and placed a hand on her arm.

"Stay calm. These are the reinforcements I called for."

A moment later, several Aipom swung down from the branches, landing nimbly in the clearing.

"Aipom? The species native to the Johto region?" Alice asked uncertainly. She lowered her weapon, looking slightly sheepish. "Sorry... I've mostly studied Fire-types. I only recognize a handful of others."

"Haha, it's only natural for someone aiming to be a Fire-type specialist," Feng Che laughed off her apology.

He leaned down and greeted the lead Aipom and its companions. "I'm counting on you all. Please, lure the sentries away from the nest."

After Feng Che explained the details of the tactical maneuver, the lead Aipom gave an "OK" sign with its tail.

"Alright, the operation is officially underway," Feng Che announced.

The Aipom moved with incredible agility, vanishing into the canopy. Despite the thick white fog, their hearing was exceptional. They tracked the rhythmic buzzing of Beedrill wings and launched volleys of Swift from the shadows.

Because Swift is a wide-area, never-miss move, it was easy to strike a Beedrill even through the mist. One by one, the patrolling sentries grew enraged and gave chase, lured further and further away from the central hive.

"Perfect. Just like that."

Through his infrared goggles, Feng Che saw the plan unfolding with clockwork precision. As the number of guards dropped to a manageable level, he signaled for the next phase.

"Rookidee, use Tailwind and draw one out!"

Ditto remained in its Arbok form, staying coiled near Feng Che to ensure his personal safety.

Rookidee flapped her wings, creating a small, concentrated vortex of air that boosted her velocity. While she couldn't see well in the fog, Feng Che acted as her eyes.

"Rookidee, bank left... now! Strike with Peck!"

Having trained under Feng Che, the bird responded instinctively to his voice. She utilized the momentum from Tailwind to deliver a devastating Peck squarely to a Beedrill's head. The bug Pokémon let out a sharp buzz and collapsed, unconscious.

The disturbance finally drew the attention of the hive's ruler. A massive Beedrill—nearly double the size of the others—burst from the nest. Its dual stingers were exceptionally long, gleaming with a cold, murderous light. Purple-black venom dripped from its tail stinger, and its body was covered in coarse, dark bristles.

Hanging from its abdomen was a Silver Key.

Pokémon: Beedrill Gender: Male Potential: Outstanding (Yellow) Ability: Sniper Level: 15 Type: Bug / Poison Moves: Twineedle, Rage, Fury Attack, Focus Energy, Poison Sting, Agility, Pin Missile Status: Infuriated

A Beedrill of this caliber could fly at extreme speeds, using its three stingers to deliver a flurry of toxic strikes. However, the heavy morning dew had weighted its wings, slowing it down. It was still faster than a common Beedrill, but it was no longer untouchable.

If I want that Silver Key, I have to take this leader down, Feng Che calculated.

"Rookidee, use Peck! Hit and run—lure it over here!"

Rookidee dove in. Bolstered by Tailwind, she slammed into the leader's forehead before it could even react. The damage wasn't immense, but the insult was profound.

The Beedrill leader's rage boiled over. It hummed violently and lunged, its stingers glowing with white energy. Four or five glowing needles erupted from its lances—Pin Missile.

"Rookidee, watch out!"

Pin Missile had a natural tracking property, making it difficult to evade. But Rookidee had undergone rigorous evasion drills. Hearing the whistle of the projectiles, she performed a sharp vertical climb. The missiles slammed into a tree trunk instead, causing the wood to instantly wither and blacken from the concentrated toxins.

"This leader has combined its Pin Missile with its poison. Clever."

"Rookidee, circle back! Use Power Trip!"

Power Trip grows in power the more a Pokémon flaunts its dominance. Rookidee dove again, her beak glowing as she slammed into the leader's midsection. The Beedrill felt as though its internal organs had been shifted by the impact.

Driven mad by the pain, the leader lost all sense of strategy. It unleashed a "Fury Attack," its dual stingers becoming a blur of silver as it tried to skewer the tiny bird. Rookidee, however, danced through the storm of strikes, her previous training making the Beedrill's weighted movements look slow in comparison.

"Rookidee, finish it with Fury Attack!"

Rookidee's beak extended with a sharp white light. She lunged forward, striking the Beedrill's wings and abdomen in a rapid-fire sequence. The bird's beak tore through the leader's gossamer wings and left deep gashes in its chitinous armor.
