"Drowzee, find Kongjian's location. I need to meet up with him as soon as possible."
Drowzee pressed its hands together, emitting a peculiar mental frequency as if scanning the surrounding area. After a short while, beads of sweat appeared on Drowzee's forehead. It trembled violently, its small body seemingly pushed to its absolute limit.
"Drowzee, hang in there!"
Jiade Tianchen channeled all of his latent psychic energy into Drowzee's body. Drowzee held on for another minute before finally opening its eyes and shaking its head in disappointment.
"As I thought, Death Island is too large. We've been scattered too far apart."
"Even with my psychic amplification, Drowzee's detection range only expanded to ten kilometers. That's its limit for now. Forget it, I should leave this place first."
Tianchen knew he could only play tricks from the shadows for now; if he were caught in a direct confrontation with Seita's group, he'd be finished. He used his storage ring to sweep the four heavy backpacks inside, then slowly and meticulously crawled out of the thicket.
Unova Region. Caitlin's Estate.
Inside the sprawling castle of the Jiade (Caitlin) family, a blonde girl strode down the grand staircase. Maidservants bowed their heads, addressing her as "Eldest Miss" with trembling voices.
"Is there still no word on my idiot brother?" Caitlin asked irritably.
Her immense, untamed psychic power caused every object in the hall—vases, paintings, chairs—to begin floating precariously.
"Miss, please, control your power. Do not get agitated," the butler, Darach, pleaded. "We are doing everything we can to locate Master Tianchen."
"If he didn't want the arranged marriage, he should have just told me! Without the protection of the Jiade family, he's nothing. What if he's been kidnapped?"
As Caitlin's emotions flared, the entire castle began to vibrate with a low, rhythmic thrum. "And he actually dared to block our twin telepathy! I am going to explode!"
"That idiot... he doesn't know how to take care of himself. And he left without even taking his main team! What on earth is he thinking?"
"A-choo!" Tianchen sneezed violently several times.
He rubbed his nose, knowing his sister was likely cursing him back in Unova.
"Sorry, Caitlin. I have to become a true powerhouse before I return. Otherwise, I'm just a political breeding tool, and my pride won't allow that," Tianchen murmured.
He had joined the Rocket recruitment by sheer chance and naturally gravitated toward the Psychic-type Drowzee. This particular Drowzee possessed incredible latent potential, but because it looked frail and sickly at birth, it had been overlooked—allowing Tianchen to "pick it up" easily. Its heightened perception had already helped him avoid many dangerous predators on the island.
"I've found several keys already. I must find Kongjian and secure our partnership. Anyone who can beat an official member with an Arbok is someone I need on my side."
Tianchen smiled to himself. "Perfect. I have the brains and psychic utility, Alice has the connections and survival gear, and Kongjian has the raw power. Together, we'll dominate this trial."
Death Island Forest.
Rookidee had finished her daily drills. She could now successfully execute a Peck while maintaining the momentum of Quick Attack. Currently, she was engaged in a skirmish with a wild Aipom.
The Aipom was a mischievous purple monkey with a powerful, hand-like cream-colored tail. It used this tail to leap between branches and deliver devastating blows. It shrieked, swinging its tail to launch a volley of Swift.
"Aipom is a great sparring partner. Rookidee, use Peck!" Feng Che commanded.
Having practiced the move a thousand times, Rookidee's execution was flawless. Her beak glowed with a sharp white light, extending like a spearhead.
"Now, counter the Swift with Fury Attack!"
Rookidee lunged. With a series of lightning-fast strikes, she shattered the glowing stars into harmless sparks of light.
"Excellent! You've mastered the essence of the move. Keep it up!"
The Aipom, seeing its attack nullified, grew furious. It slammed its tail against the ground, vaulting high into the air. Its tail glowed with a brilliant white energy as it condensed the air into a massive spectral fist. It was using Focus Punch.
"Rookidee, dodge it! Fast!"
Even though it was a Fighting-type move (which Flying-types resist), a direct hit from a Focus Punch would still knock the small bird out of the sky.
Small gale-force eddies suddenly formed under Rookidee's wings. Using the sudden lift, her speed spiked, allowing her to narrowly avoid the spectral fist. She didn't miss her opening—she dove straight for the monkey, her glowing beak slamming into Aipom's forehead.
The Aipom crashed into the forest floor like a fallen fruit, eyes spinning as it slipped into unconsciousness.
