The instant the talks collapsed, Ronin's hand closed on the large cloth that had stayed folded in his pocket the entire time.

Owl, already linked by puppet threads, spun a second cloth into existence. The new one shot free from the tightly gathered original, still the size of a candy wrapper.

Ronin's hands formed the cross seal at the same moment.

A shadow clone appeared, seized the flying cloth, and the fabric exploded outward the instant the clone's fingers closed around it—already fully unfurled and billowing in front of the clone.

Ronin's real body grabbed Kurapika and spun toward the vault.

He would not leave the Scarlet Eyes behind. Not now. Not when they were this close.

Kurapika still did not understand why Beyond wanted him, but the moment Ronin moved he knew exactly what his role had become.

His eyes flicked across Ronin's back, already settled on the decision. One man had nearly wiped out the remaining Phantom Troupe. Ronin had to be at his absolute limit. Continuing the fight offered no better than a thirty percent chance of victory.

If it came to it, Kurapika would be the card that bought Ronin's escape.

"Stop thinking that."

The Sharingan missed nothing. Kurapika's gaze had been an open book. Ronin understood the plan in a single glance.

Not yet.

First the Scarlet Eyes. Then regroup with Shizuku and the others. Only then would the final escape route open.

Leaving Kurapika behind had never been an option. Especially after Beyond had made it clear that anyone who became his "partner" fell under the effect of his ability. Ronin would not throw Kurapika into that fire.

Beyond was a pure schemer. Even a short conversation had been enough to confirm it. Everything and everyone existed only as tools for his goal.

Ronin's fingers twitched. A second large cloth appeared and snapped shut over Kurapika before the younger man could react.

In this state Kurapika offered no help in a fight. He would only become a burden. Better to store him now and move alone. Escaping Beyond's blockade would be simpler that way.

While he was at it, Ronin pulled Kortopi and Chrollo's corpse into the same cloth.

Kortopi still had a faint pulse. Chrollo's body was valuable material for Impure World Reincarnation.

The moment everything was sealed, the shadow clone behind him detonated without warning.

Chakra flooded back into Ronin's body. His brow lifted a fraction, but his speed never slowed. The cloth containing Kurapika, Chrollo, and Kortopi vanished into his pocket as he reached the vault entrance.

Both hands rose to form seals again—

A figure materialized less than three meters behind him, silent as a ghost.

Ronin's heart tightened. The seals completed in the same breath. Chakra surged and split into two roaring fire dragons—one shooting straight into the vault, the other reversing to meet the presence at his back.

A soft "eh?" sounded from inside the vault.

Someone had been hiding there from the beginning. Ronin's attack had ruined the intended ambush.

Adlai's ability was not the type that could implant suggestions into Kurapika. The puppet-like girl Ging had marked as a major threat did not feel like a schemer either. That left only one conclusion: at least one more member of Beyond's team had been waiting nearby.

The fire dragons were a probe.

If the vault had been empty, the trouble would have ended there.

Now that an enemy had answered, Ronin's greatest fear was whether the Scarlet Eyes were already gone.

The figure that burst from the vault shattered the incoming fire dragon with a single punch.

Ronin got a clear look.

A young man whose face shared an unfortunate resemblance to Popeye. Arms swollen with muscle, fist coated in dense Nen. The posture belonged to an Enhancer—yet Ronin kept the possibility of an Emitter open.

He did not stop. If anything, his speed increased.

By now the number of Beyond's people still unaccounted for had dropped to a handful. The ones most likely to favor ambush tactics were the young man with glasses and the pink-haired girl. Neither would be allowed to walk out with the Scarlet Eyes.

The Popeye look-alike's appearance raised a second possibility: the man might not be a pure Enhancer at all.

Lightning crackled across Ronin's body. Both hands shifted into the two-finger thrusting stance.

Lightning Style Chakra Mode combined with the Two-Finger Piercing Hand.

Thoughts raced. The situation inside the vault remained unknown. Only one choice remained.

Crush the man who had just exited—at the highest possible speed.

The Popeye-like youth was named Usame. He had not entered the vault alone.

His target had been the Scarlet Eyes from the start.

He had never expected the talks between Ronin and Beyond to collapse so quickly. The only option left was to send Pektaro—who had already packed the eyes into a bag—down the tunnel they had prepared, while Usame himself turned to face the threat.

Lightning rose around Ronin's body. Alarm bells screamed inside Usame's head.

Adlai and Muhiel had already warned him how dangerous this man was. There was no room for carelessness.

His hand flipped. A can of spinach appeared in his grip.

Massive fingers crushed the metal. The green contents shot straight toward his open mouth.
