The Fourth Prince had been kidnapped.
Too many people had watched the earth dragon rise into the sky with Tserriednich aboard. The news spread through the entire Kakin Empire in hours. Capital security had spent a full month on high alert and come up empty; now the same attacker had turned two failures into a clean success. Complaints flooded the guard units, but no one cared about complaints. Recovering the prince was the only priority.
"A dragon appearing in Kakin should be an auspicious omen," the news anchor declared with theatrical passion, "yet today it has been twisted by criminals into a tool of crime—"
Kurapika watched the bound and blindfolded prince and allowed himself a dry comment.
"You really went for maximum spectacle."
"I'm ready." Ronin stepped in front of Tserriednich. "Once I start, if he doesn't die he'll awaken Nen. That could turn into a serious problem, so I need to set a few precautions first."
"Do whatever you need." Kurapika moved aside.
He had already tried talking. The results had been exactly zero. Kurapika did not particularly care what other secrets the Fourth Prince might be hiding, but he had not expected extracting the location of the Scarlet Eyes to be this difficult. Tserriednich seemed convinced that speaking or remaining silent made no difference, so he simply refused to answer anything.
His calculation was too simple.
In front of Nen, silence meant nothing. The memories themselves were enough.
Ronin understood the prince's latent talent better than most. What worried him more was the possibility that Tserriednich was one of Beyond Netero's children. If that were true, Beyond would have left something behind. Ronin might seize the prince only to find Beyond's people on his doorstep within the hour.
Speed was mandatory.
First came the sealing formulas laid directly onto Tserriednich's body—cut every external support. Next the Four Symbols Seal, ready to suppress any foreign Nen that might suddenly surface from inside the prince. That second layer was insurance against whatever Beyond might have planted.
Only after both seals were active did Ronin begin the mind-read.
His recent work with sealing scrolls had sharpened his control. When the double seal settled, Tserriednich's outward appearance shifted into something that looked exactly like Zetsu. The restriction went deeper than surface suppression; it locked the prince's life energy from the inside as well.
Blindfolded, Tserriednich still understood the attackers' goal.
The Scarlet Eyes.
Ever since he acquired them he had received occasional reports about surviving members of the Kurta Clan. He never learned who sent the information, only that one day those survivors would come looking. That was why he had hidden the eyes in a place no one would ever find. He would not hand them over. He still intended to collect every remaining pair.
The expression of someone dying in the middle of revenge always carried a special kind of resentment. If the brain was intact, the finished piece would be perfect art.
He had underestimated the two Kurta remnants.
Was he going to die here?
The only real regret that surfaced was failing to kill that piece of trash, the First Prince, with his own hands.
Ronin placed his palm on the prince's head.
He knew the window was narrow. Tserriednich was a freak. The mind-reading technique forced aura into the target's body. Even after conversion into chakra, the energy still carried enough Nen properties to open every node in the prince's system. That meant Tserriednich would gain the ability to use Nen the moment the technique began.
Against an ordinary person the risk would be negligible. Against the Fourth Prince—who would spontaneously generate a Nen beast the instant his aura awakened—it was a race.
Ronin had to locate the Scarlet Eyes inside the memories before the beast fully formed, then withdraw, deal with the creature, and seal the prince completely.
Not kill. Seal.
He already had the scroll prepared for that final step.
Chakra flowed with the technique and entered Tserriednich's brain.
Beside them Kurapika quietly activated the middle finger of his Chain Jail. The links coiled around the prince like living serpents.
Fluctuations began to ripple across Tserriednich's body—the first seal reacting. Ronin's forehead beaded with sweat as the minutes stretched. Neon stood nearby holding a handkerchief, not daring to step forward. Shizuku gripped Blinky, ready to swing the vacuum cleaner like a hammer at the first sign of trouble. Abachi's fingers stayed tight around her fishing rod, body already angled for a quick retreat; her ability worked best at distance.
Fine script began to surface across the prince's bare skin—the visible marks of the sealing formulas. Those marks were already starting to fade.
Ronin's eyes snapped open.
"Found it."
He had the exact location. A silent curse at the madman left his thoughts as he yanked his hand free.
The withdrawal opened a gap. The Nen that had been building inside Tserriednich surged toward the point of contact. In a single heartbeat the remaining seal marks shattered.
A strange silhouette began to take shape beside the prince.
A Nen beast.
Before the creature could fully condense, fresh curse seals flared across Tserriednich's body. The Four Symbols Seal Ronin had prepared in advance finally activated. The massive outburst of aura that had been about to erupt collapsed inward and vanished.
Ronin ignored the half-formed beast. The hand that had just left the prince's head closed into a fist and drove straight toward Tserriednich's skull.
