Chapter 287 - GAM Ch 287: Gray's Wild Ride

*Warning: Dangerous driving detected.*

*Dangerous driving vehicle approaching.*

*Evasion mode activated.*

A piercing alarm blared from Jean's flying car system.

She frowned. Flying cars these days all had autopilot systems, especially during Angel Flight, which required computer-assisted navigation unless there was a system or vehicle malfunction.

Such incidents did occur occasionally on Coruscant, a planet with billions of inhabitants.

But they only appeared in the news. Most people might never encounter one in their lifetime.

Now she was experiencing it firsthand.

Looking at the group of vehicles marked with red "dangerous driving" warnings on her computer screen, Jean Gray realized something was wrong.

She had been targeted.

Her movements were usually unpredictable. It should have been impossible for anyone to track her beforehand.

She rarely arrived anywhere at a pre-arranged time, except for today's meeting with the new tax official.

Was someone planning to harm her?

She glanced outside. The vehicles weren't Coruscant law enforcement, just general-purpose cars.

She had indeed been targeted.

Panic flickered through Jean's mind. But then she remembered, several Star Destroyers were hovering above her.

Aside from those requisitioned by the Jedi Order, two were permanently stationed nearby.

She activated her communicator and called her boss.

The call connected to Robot Dog Number One. "Ms. Jean Gray, your master is taking an afternoon nap. How may I assist you?"

Thump!

Jean's vehicle was bumped from behind. The communication screen trembled.

Before Jean could explain, Robot Dog Number One said, "Collision detected. Retrieving satellite imagery."

In the robot dog's processor, real-time satellite images appeared. Jean Gray's vehicle was surrounded by several others.

According to the scan, these vehicles were armed.

Robot Dog Number One: "Unidentified modified vehicles carrying weapons detected. Low-level threat."

"I suggest you activate the vehicle's shield system. Support will arrive in one minute."

The robot dog's intelligence was indeed impressive. Jean followed the advice and activated the shields.

Her flying vehicle wasn't ordinary.

It had been custom-made for her by Garfield himself, equipped with an advanced shield system and small counter-attack weapons.

The reason Robot Dog didn't suggest a counter-attack but instead deployed Hornet fighters was to avoid revealing the vehicle's true capabilities.

If the enemy didn't know what she was capable of, they would think it was just a modified vehicle with shields.

That would reduce their effectiveness and could prove crucial in situations where support was unavailable.

High in orbit, aboard a Star Destroyer, a small squadron of Hornet fighters sat waiting on the destroyer's external armor.

The moment the sortie order came, they launched.

Engines spewed blue ion plumes as they entered the atmosphere at top speed.

With precise calculation, the attack squadron had already allocated and locked onto their targets through radar and satellite systems, before the Hornets even entered Coruscant's airspace.

Inside the flying vehicle tunnel, a unique high-speed chase unfolded.

Accelerating. Decelerating. Overtaking. Sudden turns. Drifting. Circling the flight path.

Each vehicle employed its own techniques. Police vehicles patrolling the area, detecting the commotion, joined in.

Piercing sirens and chaotic traffic caused by the reckless driving resulted in utter chaos.

The Jedi Temple also received immediate news of a car chase on Coruscant, with the pursuing vehicles now attacking police vehicles.

A firefight had broken out. Reinforcements were needed.

Coruscant was known for its strict security. Given the incident, the Jedi Order naturally intervened.

Yoda dispatched Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"Obi-Wan," Yoda said, "a spaceship chase on Coruscant, there is. Modified vehicles, armed with weapons, engaged in combat with security vehicles."

"Go to the warehouse. Get a combat vehicle and provide support."

Obi-Wan had barely survived a parachute jump to the final circle. He was on the verge of victory.

Now a mission had arrived.

He looked utterly helpless, clicked to exit the game, and rose from his seat. Truth be told, he didn't want to go.

He had only agreed to help Anakin rank up after taking him to visit Padmé and his mother.

He handed Anakin off to Yoda. "Master, I'm going now."

Playful as Obi-Wan was, he still understood right from wrong.

After saying goodbye to his apprentice, he immediately set off for the warehouse.

Inside the warehouse, Yoda had already instructed the central computer to prepare the necessary combat vehicles, waiting for Obi-Wan to board.

But as soon as he arrived at the warehouse, Qui-Gon Jinn sent a communication.

"Master," Obi-Wan said, "what's the matter?"

"Obi-Wan," Qui-Gon replied, "the car chase involves Ms. Jean Gray. The robot dogs and fighter jets have already been dispatched to assist."

"You only need to safely escort Ms. Jean Gray back here."

What?

So *she* was the one being chased?

An old acquaintance. Obi-Wan always called her "Sister Jean."

In the past, he would have been anxious to drive out and rescue her. But his master had already spoken and dispatched fighter jets.

How could a car possibly beat a fighter jet? Especially Garfield's Star Destroyer, equipped with the latest Hornet fighters.

Although they hadn't been updated in the game yet, Obi-Wan knew their capabilities.

He had already conducted simulated cooperative combat with the Hornets in his fighter jet.

The Hornets' performance was far superior to those older Vulture fighters. The two sides weren't even in the same league.

"Okay, Master. I will definitely bring Sister Jean back safely."

"Never underestimate the enemy," Qui-Gon warned.

"Yes, Master."

Despite the reprimand, young Obi-Wan happily sat in the driver's seat, started the engine, and flew toward the scene.

Obi-Wan traveled at high speed with the help of the navigation system.

The location wasn't far from the Jedi Temple, but before he even arrived, he witnessed a spectacular scene:

A swarm of Hornet fighters taking down a vehicle with a single missile.

One by one, the enemy ships turned into fireworks in the sky.

Leaving survivors was unnecessary for Garfield. He only needed to compare satellite imagery and the systems inside nearby vehicles to determine their origins.

After the High Claw fighters efficiently intercepted the ships, Jean was escorted by the fighters and returned to the Jedi Temple with Obi-Wan.

Three days later, Coruscant's internal security department sent agents to investigate.

Garfield, feigning fear, forcibly kicked Jean, who had been comfortably staying at the Temple for three days, out to meet the agents.
